my dad bought me some pioneer premier 6x9's for christmas to put in my truck. but i asked for 5 1/4's b/c that what i need for it, well now i dont want to hurt his feelings and try to take them back or anything so i was thinking they might be a nice upgrade for the mustang. i was thinking about putting them in the rear deck. i have a sony headunit and currently its playing through the factory system. if i put the pioneers in place of the factory speakers in the rear is it going to sound any better without re-wiring all that crap. i mean i know obviously to sound best i need to re wire them, but i really dont feel like going through all that trouble.

stangs take 6x8... i made 6x9 work in my back by taking out my mach 460 box and screwing them right to the metal.. i dont know if the non 460 cars fit 6x9 in the back.. they might!
and yes it should sound better.. i had pioneer type s's in my car for a while before going to MB quart's and they were a nice setup... if you dont want to go though the work now just slap em in there with the stock wiring and re wire on a rainy day....

Non Mach cars have the same exact metal back there as mach cars. Just cut to fit.
You didn't spec if you had the Mach system or not. If not, then wiring should be easy as splicing in the new speakers. If not, then running some speaker wire from your head unit would be ideal. And its not hard, only take a few min with these cars. Can be all wired up in about an hour.

Thats what I had to do when I installed my deck on my Mach system.
Where does the speaker wire run from the back speakers to the deck? I've been contemplating putting in new rear speakers since I can get a good discount from a friend.

do you have a huge plastic box that goes the width of your trunk mounted under the rear shelf? If ya do then it's Mach. Or easier yet...do your tweeters or rear deck speaker grilles have a big logo that says mach460 on it.

thats the way cars not equipped with the mach stereo come. no indication of speakers. unless you look inside the trunk at the underside of the rear deck. thats how my 04 is and thats how my 94 was.
thats exactly how my car is. i had the radio in one spot and a cd player in another slot below it, and when i put my head unit in i wasnt getting hardly any sound. then i figured out i had to wire in a blue wire to the amp wire on the headunit and its been working great 2 years later. so if i dont have the mach system, i obviously still have amps, so is it still gonna be a weird ohm amp or is it going to be ok.

no, your car doesn't have (factory) amps so that's one less thing to worry about. makes it easier to go to an ALL aftermarket setup
i have a non-MACH car so i'm looking forward to a whole new setup as soon as i learn a little more about car audio
the definately had atleast one factory amp, when i hooked the headunit up i had very little to no sound. if i turned it up like full volume it was about as loud as someone wispering. found a blue wire coming out of the factory harness and hooked that to the blue amp wire coming from my headunit and now its loud like it suppose to be. the car was stock when i got it so i know its not an aftermarket amp.
