Smog with 262AH cams, and a tune

...A cop can site you for a $20k fine in Cali - but they have to prove you had not cats on since it's an actual trial. ...

This is what I was talking about. I heard the $20K number from a guy going to trial for it. I didn't realize my statement would be laughed at. Just because it is crazy, doesn't mean our good CA government can't do it. I didn't think the guy made that up, or anything.

If they pull you over, look, and take the right pictures...

...I would think it would be a pretty open-and-shut case at trial.

i live in the south bay, and i used to go to alot of meets and races etc... i actually talked to cops as well and what i found was that instead of it being 5k fine per cat its a 2k fine, supposedly. but i dont know anyone who was made to pay this amount.
all of my friends who have been pulled over with very modified cars, have all been just sent to the ref.
obviously before they go to the ref they put the car back to stock and no issues no fines afterwards.
when i was pulled over for tint, almost a year ago, the cop pulled me over in broad daylight because he saw me at a stop light. he called over two more cops, and first thing he whent after was my tint. he asked me what else i have done, and i just said all i know, is i have an intake and i baught the car just like this.. he told me to start the car pop the hood, didnt look under the car and let me go with just a fix it fo the windows.
btw i passed smog with my mods no problems, just be sure u go to a place that wont mind visual mods.
what i am scared of, is if i am sent to a smog only place..

Just find a gas station that does test only. Those guys don't know enough to look at something and know it shouldn't be there. As long as you bolt in stock cats and get them HOT on the way over you will pass.

So people have not had visual mod problems when it is smog time.
I have the stock parts that would need to go on, h pipe, plenum t/b.
I do plan on putting the stock h ipipe back on, and getting them nice and hot.
Actually the car seems to run really clean eve nwit hthe catted pro chamber, it does not smell at all, in fatc it smells liek it is running very clean, I hope to verify thuis in a few weeks by getting it on a 4 gas.

Just curious as to people visual test experience when it comes to smog.

The last 2 gts I have had, I did not have a single issue with mods.

When I SMOGed last, the place went all crazy about my K&N FIPK. I had the notice it was CARB legal taped to my shock tower, but he missed it.

He came up to me all serious saying "I see you modified it, do you have an Exception number for the intake piping and filter setup?" I couldn't believe it, but it was the first time I had to SMOG the car. I told him about the sticker, maybe it had the number he needed, but it could have fallen off - I hadn't checked in a while. He had just missed it.

He still went into his office, went online, found and printed out the exemption notice for my FIPK, took it with him to the engine compartment, and then spent a minute or two comparing what it said to what he saw.

I imagine it will be fun when I eventually show up, blown.

I would think the experience will vary by location, but that is actually what is supposed to happen. I couldn't believe it actually did, however.

haha, weak. I have to drive up to nor cal to smog my car - but it's worth it cuz i worked with the guy who's wife owns the place. He just goes "that all stock right?" "yup, that's right!". Then they charge me $20 after i pass:nice:

I have a blower and the cams, as well as a few other mods. The blower has an EO thaty cover the entire kit so it shoukld not be any issues.
