Anyone know anyone? i was just reading the other thread, and when steeda said he got his whole car done for a grand (which is what i intended on paying for mine at maaco anyway), i figured i shouldn't be overlooking body shops.... anyone know anyone good? I've already sanded and primed it, i just need someone to spray it and do the trim for me.

I live in NJ, and seems a good paint job here is valued from 2000-2500.
Alot of shops have too much insurance work to get involved in paint work. So if they price a paint job, they price it by how much they would be making if it was insurance work.
And you'd be lucky to get your car back in a month.
I believe the term i heard used here is "paint jail".

I had a primed and ready to paint car, went to body shops (even Maaco and the like) asking for a good quality paint job on the car. Most shops gave me prices minimum of $2500 (yes even Maaco) and claimed because they didn't do the body work or prime it they would not guarantee it more than when you drive it out of there.

Here is the place

Schmidt's Jack Auto Body

613 Bath St
Bristol, PA 19007
(215) 785-5776

They painted my buddy's cutlass , which was a stock repaint with body work for 1000, it was about 4 or 5 years ago, we were in highschool when it got painted. was 1000 dollars. paint still looks bad ass,

the truck in the background was also painted by this place. Lots and i mean lots of bodywork, and two tone paint job black and gray, no door jambs tho. for 850.
  and that was just this past summer.

here is a shot, in the parking lot of the paint shop, just after it was finished.

Called the guy up today... what an EXTREMELY nice guy - fantastic. he even felt bad about me driving an hour from me just so he could take a look at the stang... He quoted me at anywhere from 600-700 without jams and hood (but he's going to give me the leftover paint so i could go home and spray that **** myself)... also, he said that's without him giving it the final sand and buff... he suggested that i do that myself seeing as it could get a bit pricey... seeing as i know nothing about it, i'm going to ask him about the process and everything like that, and if worse comes to worst i'll just pay the couple extra hundred and ask him to do it... all in all he seems like a really great guy (he even started to ask me what kind of colleges i was applying to and all the general friendly conversational bull ****).. thanks SO much black87ttop..

also, if anyone wants to give me a tutorial on how to do a final sand/buff on a freshly painted car, feel free to do so (PLEASE!)... also, pictures would be nice.

No problem man, im glad to see i was able to help someone out and get a great paint job for great money. I cant recomend the guy enough, he is a real nice man to do business with.

When i talked to him about doing my paint on my stang, i told him i wanted the deepest glossiest blackest black he had, and i wanted it to shine then i asked how much and he was like now your gettin expensive, i was like uh oh, how much? he replies well thats prolly gonna run you about a 1000, i was like damn thats awesome, that aint expensive at all.lol
