Here I am with yet another swap question. Has anyone done a similar swap? I want to put a set of bbk longtubes on the motor before i put it in. I was just wondering if i would run into clearance problems.

i installed MAC longtubes! i had some clearance issues before realizing the steering column needed to be pulled. after that it went right in. just throw some sheets down beside your strut towers and behind the rad support to keep from scrathing them. just take your time when doing it and pull everything out of the way...

note: i had installed tranny after the motor was installed... tranny was tough to get on with the longtubes on as well. there was alot of twisting, rotating and of course some swearing! but after it was all said and done the LT's are worth the hassle!

You got the trans on after the L/T's?? I have never heard of anybody doing that.

Anyways...the Mach 1 swap won't be bad in the car. I put a 2V motor from the bottom on my 81 notchback. That was tight on each side for the heads and valve covers. A 4V will be even tighter...but it WILL fit! I suggest dropping the car on to the motor/trans/K-member already assembled. That is what I did..and it was simple. But I do have a hoist....

yeah i put on the tranny in after the longtubes. like a said it was pretty difficult. especially since i do not have a car lift or a pit... we jacked the car up on 2 concrete blocks in the front and 3 blocks in the back... we also left the motor mounts lose so we could pull the back of the motor down. i benched the tranny while my brother lined it up. trust me it was difficult and i didnt know any better at the time!

do you have any ****ing idea how dangerous it is to jack your car up on concrete blocks and go under it...

concrete collapses = you crushed and dead

00 gt weighs what 3300 lbs(very conservative number). divided by 4. so what 850 lbs per tire(conservative again)...

a concrete blocks compression force is alot greater than that.

i am aware of the dangers... but i was willing to take that risk!!!
i got that tranny on didnt I? haha

ive heard of it happening more then once aroudn here lol...but yeah, you got your tranny on lol

I jackstands, keep the jack under there and I slide a wheel and tire under neath too!! This guy that used to work next to us had a car fall on him. Nobody knew about it and he was trapped under there for about 6 hours. He walks with a limp.
