It's not worth 30K, but neither is it worth 6-8K. For someone who wants a Cobra of that vintage, a triple black vert with only 5K miles (assuming all of it is legitimate) will bring a whole lot more than a typical one with 100K+ miles.

KBB Private party value:

1996 SVT Mustnag Cobra convertable w/ 5000 miles in GOOD condition: $9,980

This was based of zip code: 98387

My max amount was off by $1980.

either way its a funny add.

A twelve year old Cobra with 5000 miles is far too unique to be valued by KBB. A professional appraisal would be more accurate, but in the end it is worth whatever the buyer is willing to pay. I would guess he will end up getting $12-13K. I also expect that it would fetch a grand or so more if it were 100% bone stock instead of supercharged.

That's high, but I see outrageously priced cars all the time:

What's the conventional wisdom on a heavily modded car: Add the value of all the parts (excluding any installation labor), divide by 1/2. Start at that price and expect to go lower.

Totally agree!

Advertising it on Craigslist is not the right location to target the crowed which is needed to purchase such a car for the price he is asking. EBAY or the Mustang trader would bring him alot better results.

I think it's a great deal, I don't know what you guys are talking about. I'm getting ready to put my 88' 5.0, facotry stripped down coupe, with the hard to find Rio red paint and grey interior on there for $22,500.00. There can't be more than 2,000 of my combo either...:D

That is probably why he asking 30K he got the professional appraisal which means nothing but what you want to hear. Your car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. That might be a 10-11K car. It's not even lowered.

You can put yours next to a local add for an '84 Mustang, that needed work, with 130k on the clock, for $6,000. He's down to about 3500, now:)

I honestly don't know if he will see 30K from it, but it's basically a brand new 12 year old car with some aftermarket goodies. Triple black vert, not a bad combo, personally don't care for a Cobra vert but they are valued higher. You have to consider what the car sold new and what other cars out there that are close as possible are selling for. He probably will end up selling it for way less than he wants or somebody that has a car collection will buy it for top dollar.

I was at Memory Lane in Portland today and they had a bone stock 2000 Mustang GT vert in chrome yellow with the black stripe decals on the hood. Mileage: under 2500. Asking price: 21,000. Maybe the 96 Cobra triple vert black with the low miles will bring 30k.

You people that think that Cobra is only worth $6K-$10K are the ones puffing too much weed. Believing what those KBB books say for a 12 year old car, low production, low mileage, mint condition is rediculous. If he paid mid 20's for it brand new off the lot, I think he could get at least $18K for it private seller.

 :nice: Tell that to the Bank, I'm sure they will understand.

Also as far as low production, please........ They have been making Cobra's every year since 1993 (-1 year for when they jacked the engine HP numbers up 1999?). A 1996 Cobra is nothing special!

Only Cobra's that will fetch a solid asking price after so many years are the Cobra R's, now the Cobra R's are Low production

Please humor me some more and go out and buy a '96 Cobra with 5K miles on it for $9,900. Take your KBB and bank loan officer with you also.

 :rlaugh: :rlaugh: :rlaugh: :nice:

No thank's, I dont even think its worth $9,900

And for the record, most all banks these days won't even touch a car that is 10+ years old for 100% of a loan. specialy after this wonderful variable intrest Home mortgage scandal thats going on in our country:nice:

Question, Are you the one selling this Cobra, or maybe a friend of his:shrug:
