2.95 1st gear - anyone have it?

If anyone has a 2.95 1st gear and/or .63 or .59 5th, I'd like to know what rear gears you have and how you like it?

I have the T-5z with the 2.95 1st. I run 3:73s out back. Its not a bad tranny, but it definatly sucked before I changed the rear, especially with the cam. I had no low end in first gear.

I have it and 3.90's in the rear. The best thing is the lower 5th. First isnt a big difference, i had learned a certain time to shift and it was only about a 400 rpm difference with the new gear. The lower 5th is a huge difference on the highway.

I agree with Baxter. I have the t-5-z and 3.73's. The 5th gear is great for the highway. Once I re-gear the rear I may go with 4.10's because of the 5th gear ratio it. It will probly bring the rpm's to where they were in 5th with my stock transmission.

The T-5Z is commonly known as the "super duty T-5 transmission". It's an aftermarket transmission and doesn't come stock in any car except the '93 Cobra.

The standard T5 in most of the Stangs had 3.35, 1.94, 1.29, 1.00, .675 gear ratios. The T5-Z has 2.95, 1.94, 1.34, 1.00, .625 ratios. I have it in mine with 3.73's (although my shorter tires make it like a Stang with 3.90's). I like it. PLENTY of low end in 1st (I'd actually like to have it a bit longer - around 2.75), and relatively relaxed cruising for the highway. Mine turns over around 2400 rpm at 70 mph, and I consistently get 24-26 mpg on the highway.

By the way, just multiply the gear ratio in the tranny times the rear end ratio to get the overall multiplier. A stock stang with 3.35 first and 2.73 gears has an overall ratio of 9.145:1 in 1st gear. With a T5-Z and 3.73 gears, you have 11.00:1 ratio - much steeper than stock.

I have the Z with 3.55's. I like it, 1st is plenty enough for me, and 5th is real nice. I had it with a stock motor for quite a while and was happy, still just as happy with a HCI motor. I would like 4.10's though, but not because of the tranny.

i have one with my 3.90s and there is a definate difference in RPMs on the highway.

the first gear cant really tell much difference, most stangs spin in first anyways.
its a pretty nice trans.

my t5 is actually a world class with a D&D gearset with the zspec ratios.
works great and has taken many HARD launches at the track and it seems to be holding up good.

I have a 2.95 gear conversion to my T5. So I have the .59 overdrive. I'm running 3.73s out back. On the street IMO would be better. Track performance would all depend on your setup.

As for overall ratio the 2.95 box needs 3.55s to have the same overall ratio as a 3.35 box with 3.08s. The same is true with the .68 vs .59 overdrive.

Got the same setup here but im running 3.55 gears. I couldn't imagine My lil pony with steeper rear gears. I obliterate my Nitto 555's 1st through 4th, Hell if i downshift into 3rd on the highway doing 60-65 i can bust them loose untill it traction catches up LOL
