Electrical Problems/ headlights stopped working

The other day my headlights would not come on. I have checked the bulbs, replaced with new, still not working. Switched out the headlight switch from my DD coupe, still not working. Traced wires from headlights to dash, and found nothing. The parking lights still work, as well as the tailights. I checked and rechecked the fuses, all OK. I do not know if these are on the same circuit or fuse, but my dome light stopped working as well. Everything else if good. Just a little puzzled. Any suggestions or advise where to look next? Thanks
Andrew

No info about your car's model year, EFI or carb, no mods listed. Makes it hard to troubleshoot when we don't know what you have.

Therefore, no clue as to which wiring diagram you need. The wiring changed several times between 79 & 95.

That's why it is a good idea to use the sig under the user control panel (User CP) option. It allows you to post your car year & mods, which help greatly when troubleshooting things. No, it is not there for us to snoop and see any "Secrets" you have hidden away under the hood. Be a good stangnetter and update you sig for future reference & don't keep us guessing.

The headlights used the turn signal/multifuction switch as part of the light circuit. Try the lights and pull back on the turn signal to see if your high beams work. If the high beams are OK, then the turn signal/multifuction switch is suspect. If not, then the on/off switch for the headlights is suspect.

When i had put those white bulbs in (which are too much draw on the factory wiring).
The heat loosened all the connections in the plug that goes to the light switch.
Visibly nothing looked wrong, but a little yank on the wires from behind the connector and they easily fell out.

I tried the high beams but they did not work either.

2000xb8, what do you have to do, replace the plug that goes to the headlight switch? I pulled on the wires and one of them came off. It is th ethick red wire that seperated from the plug itself. I put the wire back on, but still no headlights.

May be the headlight harness

I had the same problem with my 89 gt. I had tried everything you have described. It was finally tracked down to the actual headlight harness. There was a couple of burnt wires that completed the circuit between the headlights.
Hope this helps

I went to the junk yard and cut and spliced another connectors on.
You should be able to jump wires out and make the headlights work (if the plug is the problem).
But you have to know the colors, and offhand i do not know theym.

Try to use flash-to-pass [not the high beam setting]. FTP uses a different power source, thus it's a way to differentiate if the issue is fore or aft of the MF switch.

Good luck.
