Yesterday I was headed out of town and i noticed a New Civic SI in front of me with his big mellon launcher exhaust can and matching black rims. Just down The road it widens to two lanes and speed limit of 65, as you leave the city so i slide over to the left lane becuase i was going to be turning left eventually, just as i slide to the left keeping the same speed i notice he slows slightly and just as he starts to loose ground to me he down shifts and takes off,

I decided i would see if i can catch/keep up with him, me being in 3rd gear just stepped on it, I was walking up on him as i hit 4th when i saw a car pull out in front of me down the road aways. so i let off and slide back in behind him. He was still screaming down the road mellon launcher exhaust red-lining as i have to let off to keep from rear ending him. so i rode his bumper a little just to let him know i have more power to play with as he is giving all he has got.

we evetually caught up with traffic and he pulls up on me from the side and is laughing at me and says "you only need 4" out the window. I was so takin' back by the fact he thought his little ricer was faster. when all he did was down shift long before i even responded to him and i was still able to catch up with him and actually had to let off as to not rearend him. Beauty i sthat if teh car had not pulled out i would have gone by him.

It bugs me to think he went home and hopped on his little ricer forum and bragged about beating a GT. Me knowing all i had to do was downshift and i would have flown by him. stupid boy racers and their little fart cans. Irritate me. :bang::bang::bang::Teh-Win::Damnit:crapola

Yea, I've kind of learned that lesson before as well. If you want to flex your muscles, it's best to give them a full dose in the high RPM's, otherwise your selling your car short.

The civic si's have no lowend torque, it's all on top, They make like 200 hp at 6000 rpm's, but only 136 pounds of torque. My numbers aren't exact, but close to that. You would destory him from a dead stop. The only chance he would have would be a rolling start and that isn't much of a chance against a GT.

Well we all know that a new Si has nothing to compare to the GT. They couldn't even pull a Personal Best anywhere close to what we could do in our sleep.

It sucks for you because it bothers you that he thinks he won. I would want to give him a back-hand myself, but there's nothing we can do in these situations.

Here's all you need to know:

2.0 liter i-VTEC engine that produces 197 hp (147 kW) and 139 ft·lbf (188 N·m) of torque.
It is also the quickest Civic Si off the line, with a factory 0-60 time of 6.7 seconds according to Honda

Since the GT runs a 0-60 of 5.1 stock according to Ford. There's nothing to worry about.

You know, the funny thing is Civic owner's are always asking, "What's up with Mustang owners?"

It goes both ways. You're always going to have some tard driving either car. And as an owner of both I can attest to that. Civics trying to run my old GT and GT's trying to run my Civic!

As for the Si, from my limited activity on Civic boards they run in the 14's stock. Probably a 14.5-15.0 is the norm at under 100MPH. But just like the GT's they react very strongly to tunes and other bolt-ons and would probably be a formidable opponent for a near-stock 99+ 2V, but really won't be an issue for the average 3V.

They can be quick but it takes some good tuning and a good driver.

LOL, I own both a Mustang and a Civic. Then again, I only consider the Civic a daily beater and it stays stock. It's great having a beat up 96 Civic so I don't have to always put the mileage and wear & tear on the Mustang, but then again, I still don't understand these kids that think their stock Civics are hot rods.

i beleive its 197 at 7900 rpm. ive seen a few dyno graphs of the stockers and its pretty funny. theres no power until the vtec kicks in at 6k. then it spikes like 15 hp within 200 rpm, which is why (combined with movies like F&F that bend light and go to warp 10 when you hit "nos"/vtec) they all think their cars are so goddamn fast. That and the redline is 8k, so theres only 100 rpm over rev, so they get the sensation that their engine pulls its hardest a split second before they shift.

"you only need 4" would really, really piss me off as well. But, be confident in knowing that your engine puts out 4 times the torque under 2000 rpm, and that you shouldnt have to go street racing people to feel good about your car. If you two were at the dragstrip youd absolutely rape him. On a road course your 3500 lb pig iron would send him home crying. I love how people (ESPECIALLY the snob honda guys) underestimate mustangs because theyre over 3k pounds and have a straight axle.

Get him next time!

It's just fun. A lot of them are young and are having fun getting into cars.

When I was used to driving nothing but my parent's minivan and Buick land yacht I thought my first V6 Mustang was the fastest thing on earth. :rlaugh:

But it was a good starter and I had fun with it.

I got a better story. I just got back home from dinner out and on the strip some white guy with a bowling shirt and a 60's type hat was BLASTING Barry White from his brand new Civic.

Nice stereo.
