Hey guys, have an '04 Mach 1. Mach has a clatter in the transmission (5 spd). Replaced clutch/flywheel/pressure plate, still has the clatter. Press clutch and its gone, any ideas?. At first I thought the cable just needed adjustment but the chatter seems to be coming from the trans not the pedal. Thanks.

Clutch chatter? It doesn't really vibrate the pedal when it does that. It comes from the trans
You think?. Cause I have a guy that tells me the tranny is on its way out if it sounds like its coming from the tranny and not the clutch pedal. I just wanna get rid of it (the chatter). Car shifts good as ever and there are no problems besides that "chatter".

What situation does it chatter in?

If the clutch is chattering you won't feel it in the pedal. It will come from the trans and the shifter may shake in your hand a bit too. It usually comes when slipping the clutch at a low RPM from the clutch skipping basically

Did you swap the clutch yourself...did you notice any unusual wear?
When I did a clutch swap, I also replaced the throw out bearing and the pivot ball. When you say the problem goes away when you press the clutch in, that leads me to believe it's a TOB issue, but that's usually not defined as 'chatter'. The other possibility is a bad install...didn't get things lined up.

Didn't put it in myself. A local Mustang tuner did it. Its a Spec 2 clutch, spec pressure plate and aluminum flywheel. Car is Vortech supercharged as well BTW. Dont know if the guy that did it is trying to make me spend the cash on a new trans or if this thing needs to be adjusted or what. I just cant see anything being wrong with the transmission.

Throwout bearing was replaced when all the work was getting done. I'm stumped. Could something have gone wrong with the clutch/pressure plate installation that could have caused this?. Thanks.

If your going 1-3 do you feel it, but not in fourth, but again in 5th?

Could be the input shaft bearing is shot. The race and respective rollers are probably galled from the increased load.

BTW the 1984 Album cover kicks arse

Did you turn the flywheel?
Did you torque all the bolts to spec? That's very important.

Also...you had the chatter before the clutch install too? I was gonna say, some clutches require a 200-500 mile break in period and a side effect during the break in period is chattering.
