hey, here's the scoop everyone...... installed a new camshaft from crane cams (grind # HR-236/359-15) with the firing order of 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8, when clearly thats not the standard firing order for a 1990 302 HO. Figured i could just fix the firing order on the distributor , tried that and it doens't fire up.
Before i changed the firing order to that of crane cams', the engine was running with the new cam and stock firing order; but not properly (which led me to checking the firing order on the new cam spec card)
FYI...... new 1.60 ratio rocker arms were put in along with many other goodies..
Any help is appreciated!
Maybe pull the cam for a different one:S maybe stock computer can't recognize this change in firing order..???

The stock ECU is firing the fuel injectors at the 13726548 firing order and the distributor is firing the plugs with the 15426378 firing order, let alone the cam is opening the valves to the ignition firing order, thus, a no start will result, although there are 4 cylinders that are right, and it may try to run on 4 cyl, but not likely. Cyls # 1,2,6 and 8 are at the same time with both camshafts. Time to swap cams, or get a custom chip, if that is something that came be changed with a chip. Not a OBD11 ECU so no flash tuning can be done.

Easiest solution is to make some wire jumpers that would allow you to "re-wire" the injectors.

Not a good idea - it upsets the adaptive learning process for the computer. You end up with some cylinders running lean and others running rich. When the computer tries to adjust the air/fuel mixture, the injector it sees is not the one it adjusts. See Ford Fuel Injection Injector Firing Order for more information.

Such a condition is not a possible cause for a no start. If it was, truck V8 engines would never start (4 injectors are pulsed at once).... the system is simply using a FI waste pattern. A/F contol will be affected though, as Jrichker explained, but the engine should start and run. Should revisit the distributor firing order for the correct #1 post position on the cap..... if you want to confirm the cam's firing order, follow the paper plug procedure explained here.

ok, so i have a few options it seems, i know that with a twin turbo setup come winter i will need a new computer anyhow, and i can acquire a megasquirt 2 and get the ford adaptor, would this be a plausible option for now to install the megasquirt 2 and change the firing order with that.?/?
This cam is insane, and i'd really love to keep it!
And the other option is put a different cam in with the correct firing order...
