GM and Chrylser Merging?

I hardly doubt the Feds will let these two merge, it will fall under the lines of an oilgarchy.

and if somehow they do, big woop.....not like they are going to come up with something to save either or's asses.

Well, if it's not this, Chrysler will just go under. If I were GM, I'd wait a few more months until they're just about there, then buy.

The good thing is, there will just be one big company making ugly cars. Aztek + PT Cruiser FTW!!! I can see it now. The all new GMDC PT Aztecuiser. If I wasn't heading out for the night, I'd bust out a chop.

In regard to this - bogus. I am a trader for a large brokerage firm and nothing came in through the newswire in regard to this issue. Also - Chrysler is a privately held company, owned by Cerberus Capital mgmt. In order for GM to "merge" there would be shareholder approval required. This would take months, if not years to first gain SEC/federal approval, and then shareholder approval. Now - what I DID see on the newswire today is that GM will be shutting down(no word on temp or perm) one of their engine dye/stamp facilities that feeds engines into their small truck/SUV line. GM and FORD are in a serious liquidity crunch. Their bonds, the majority, are currently rated as junk.

On a 2nd note, Chrysler will not be going under in the short run. They, and the private equity firm that owns Chrysler, have enough cash on the balance sheets to keep operations running, while operating AT A LOSS, for between 3-5 years. This was from their last quarters report. GM has absolutely no means to acquire any business operations right now. They cannot afford to support their current product line or production/employee capacity.

GM is in big trouble right now due to the crisis. If things don't start turning around soon its very possible they could go under. And that would have some serious ramifications to the economy and the market I would think.

Also, I heard it wasn't going to be a merger but more of a trade. GM was going to trade it's remaining stake of GMAC over to cerebus in exchange for Chrysler. GMAC is the entity which does auto financing and home mortgages. Cerebus would control this all and GM would get chrysler.

i wouldn't mind seeing a unified front of U.S. automakers.

Take GM's pushrod engines and styling, Fords Ecoboost engines and styling, and Chryslers... um.. well i hate Chryslers styling. F Chrysler.
