Manual crossmembers mount different than autos?

I bought a used 8cyl standard trans crossmember for my fox yesterday. When I put it next the cars original one, I noticed that it is about 2 inches shorter. The car originally had a 4cyl auto. I also noticed that underneath the car where the 4cyl member bolted up there are 2 mounts welded to the frame. The 8 cyl piece does nopt fit into those, but it fits into some other holes under the body. Is this correct? Do the dual hump 8cyl's mount into a different place under the frame? thanks

I don't know if there's a different mounting point for the crossmember on 4 cylinder cars but in terms of double hump (v8) aod vs manual the only difference is that the cross section is moved back for the aod cars because the aod trans sits further back then the t5's did.

do these crossmembers thread into the chasis, or is it a nut and bolt?

how would it thread into the chassis? it's help in by a long bolts/nuts

here's a picture

those are the bolt holes that it is supposed to line up with and yes it uses long bolts, but that looks awfully small. will it line up? I have never seen a crossmember like that.

I am gonna have to look at the car again in the morning. thanks for the pic. What I am trying to say is the 4cyl auto crossmember I took out of the car is about 2 inches longer than the 8cyl one I bought. Underneath the car the auto crossmember bolts up to these mounts towards the inside of the rockers. The v8 crossmember does not fit into these holes because it is shorter. As you move more into the center of the car there are more holes, and the crossmember fits into those. I am just not sure if those are the correct holes for the crossmember, or maybe I cbought something that came out of a 94-98 car.

somehow I missed your first post. the mounts will come off, they should only be bolted in, and the crossmember will then fit into the area that the arrows are pointing to in the pic.

exactly... there is no crossmember pictured in the pic I posted... it slides in between where the arrows are pointed and held in place by long bolts with nuts.

post up a pic of what crossmember your referring to because Im pretty sure they all used the same crossmember just that the aod ones have the trans mount slide back further on the crossmember then the manuals

finally figured it out. The autos have a round black mount closer to the rocker mouldings that the crossmember bolts to, where the std's just bolt into the frame of the car. The crossmember fits. The only thing that still looks a little off to me is when you look straight into where the motor and trans used to be it looks like the crossmember is shifted to one side. I dont know maybe they are all like that, at least it fits. Thanks for the help guys!
