DIY Seat Delete

How would one go about making their own rear seat delete..... for a hatch in my case.

I'm considering just cutting some plywood to match the dimensions of my rear and covering it with automotive carpet.

Has anyone attempted a similar project?

No problem. I used fiber board when I made the back seat delete for my 00 GT it turned out good and cheaper then buyin a kit. Good luck.

You can buy the plans on ebay, with templetes.
Just be advised, A. It doesn't save much weight, and the little weight it does remove is from over the rear tires. B. No matter what you do, it doesn't look natural.
I put my seats back in. I'd rate removing my rear seat as one of the dumbest things i've ever done (to my car).
It just serves no point.

I used plywood for my custom rear seat delete and it's still strong enough for someone to sit on it with more knee/leg room to boot. It saved a total of 30lb.

i just took my backseats out. cut carpet and used spray glueto help mold it to the floor. it look like the 93 cobra r

Make note that his car is a 95, you can't do it the same way on a foxbody hatch.

sheet metal...if you have a brake press...make a template out of cardboard...

just get the plans off ebay, I did it was well worth the few bucks, it took all the head aches out of the process with measuring and all.

I took mine out and i also regret it , I will be putting rear seats back in the car when i get the chance. it looks stupid as well IMO, maybe im getting old and more realistic.

I think people (including myself) at first thought that a rear seat delete is going to give them a corvette or 2 seater feeling.
It doesn't, i know from experience.
All it really does is give you a ghetto feeling, like your car is incomplete or missing something.
There is nothing wrong with mustang rear seats, they are easy on the eyes and they weigh damn near nothing.

If you have a hatch and want a seat delete, do the smart thing, just fold the god damn seat down.

Thats how a seat delete should look I think, but I will agree with him on the seatbelts, but other than that looks really good

I also say don't do it, if you were to take the seats out and weigh them, I would almost bet that all of the plywood or fiber board you have to use will weigh the same if not More than when you started. And visually it does feel like something is missing from your car and doesn't look quite right. There are a lot of guys on here that have bought kits and some that have built their own and they do look good but I don't think there is any real weight savings.

I like when people take late model leather rear seats and fit them to hatchbacks that looks pimp
