Is this normal? Please help

Whats up guys. I just put my trans back in along with a new flywheel and i reused my low mile king cobra clutch. Now when i install my clutch cable and put the trans in gear with no driveshaft installed the output shaft spins freeley (in Gear) . When i take the cable off it is locked (Will not spin) . It seems like the cable is way too tight. I have to pry the clutch fork about 1 - 2 inches just to get the cable on. Anyone know what is going on here? is there any way to add slack in the cable? The way it sits now the clutch will not grab whith the cable connected I can rotate the trans with my hand. This is with a stock clutch cable quad no firewall adjuster.

It should require some effort to put the clutch cable back on the fork, as it needs to have some preload, even from the factory. It's probably out of adjustment now though, so that's a simple fix. Reach up under the dash and grab the pawl and release it from the quadrant. Don't be alarmed if it pops as the quadrant releases. While holding it, lower the clutch pedal to the floor and release the pawl. Raise the pedal back up and it's now self adjusted.

Um you dont adjust a stock quadrant like StangGT1995 said. What i did is put my foot under the clutch pedal and pull it up with my foot. You will hear it pop or click,then push the clutch in i kept doing that and mine is just fine. At first (cause it was out of adjustment) it was just like yours tho. peace

You do when it's set too tight, unless you want your clutch to slip like all hell, such as when you replace a clutch.

Do i do this with the clutch cable attached to the clutch or do i remove it first?
Also how do i release the pawl from the quadrant?

The pawl is basically just a spring loaded ratchet that grabs onto the quadrant. You just have to hold it away from the quadrant, so you can lower the pedal, since it only ratchets one way. I don't really know a way to describe it, except that you hold pressure on the opposite end of the pawl than where it meets the quadrant.

Correct. The quadrant will probably bang as the tension releases on it, but then you can hold the pawl and lower the pedal to the floor.
