What Mufflers???

im getting some new mufflers this week cause mine have a bunch of holes in them and are getting old. I want to get some really good sounding mufflers that have a good deep growly type of sound but also gets pretty loud. Ive been looking into some Super 44 Flowmasters and some SLP's but i just dont want to make a wrong decision. any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks

the flowmasters will give you a deep rumbling sound but they are chambered which means restriction. go magnaflows/H-pipe. youll love it

Don't just buy the mufflers, buy a catback.

Catbacks can be installed at home, saving installation costs. Most mufflers need to be welded in, and rarely fit properly in a catback that they didn't come with.

I like the sound of flowmasters the best, but if they haven't stepped up their quality, they will just rot again.

yeah but the reason i was just gonna get the mufflers is cause its cheaper and i know a guy that was layed off from a GM and has worked there for 30 years and does really good work on cars. he was going to weld it in for me. but idk i guess if i can find a good deal on a catback i could consider that too. i was thinking about the pypes BEAST kit which has there o/r x pipe and violater catback. that sounds badass and i would consider that if i could find it on ebay motors for more like $400 or somethin...

Everyone talks about restriction on the flows when the TOTAL range of restriction on that 370 HP muffler shootout chart is only like 6HP unless you are running warlock OPEN - between all the mufflers and that is not even rwhp. On the average mustang its going to be less restriction than that. So I would say the difference between the flows vs the xyz muffler is going to be like 1-2 at most on average so who cares. I would rather have the sound of the flows.

I agree... The sound of flows is far superior to anything else. I went flows and an hpipe to get the deep muscle car sound. No xpipe or straight thru muffler 4 me.

Well, don't take this the wrong way about your buddy, but you are going to need a lift, possibly extra pipe, pipe spreaders to do the mufflers right.
And about 99% of the time, different brand mufflers don't fit on other brands catbacks. Your pipes will hit the gas tank, upper control arms and the frame rails.

Trust me, get a bassani Bx catback, and never look back. Is that what i have? No, i wish though.
It would be a major mistake to just buy mufflers. Besides i think if you are tight on cash the flowmaster kit is only like $299 (gt).
You are going to spend $150 alone on mufflers, that only produce sound, no hp.
At least with a catback you are getting a few horses for your money too.

On your average N/A stang thats not making a ton of power, it does not matter what muffler type you pick. Pick on SOUND alone.


Now on a turbo car...thats c ompletely different. I've seen guys report a gain of 30-40hp by switching out flows to something that flows better(straight through). This is just because turbo's are sensitive to the exhaust system you run....this is not applicable on supercharged cars.

yeah thats true. but im kind of on a budget here. id say my budget is around 500$ And ive listened to A LOT of different exhausts on youtube and i deffinitly think flows have the deepest and one of the best tones you can get for a muscle car but witht that being said, flowmasters arnt the best quality out there. most of them are just aluminized and wont last that long especially if i drive it in the winter. Im really close to buying the "beast kit" by PYPES which comes with an o/r x pipe and there violater catback. its only about 500$ for it and its not just a catback, it includes an x pipe. i think thats the best decision because 3 reasons.
1. the x pipe and catback are the same brand so it will bolt up in the stock position perfectly with no problems.
2. the x pipe and the catback are both made of 409 stainless steel so it will last a long time and stay looking good, even the tips are stainless steel.
3. Ive listened to it on youtube on a couple different mustangs and it sounds badass on all of them. especially the 94 GT...watch this clip

You could get the same sound pulling off all your exhaust and running open headers. A truckish blatty sound at low RPM and nothing more then a bunch of noise as high RPM. You could get that same sound running straight pipes and cherry bombs. To each his own.

I have the Pypes catted X-pipe and Violater catback.
It sounds great, fits good and not to difficult to install lying on your back with the car on jackstands.

But, remember there is a sound difference between X-pipes and H-pipes.
A stock/aftermarket H-pipe will have more rumble.
A catted/open X-pipe will have more of a raspy/NASCAR sound.

I have the SLP Loudmouth exhaust and an offroad H-Pipe on my car. I was very impressed with the quality and fitment of the slp stuff. I love the sound of my car above 1/4 throttle but just putting around town I think it sounds like a truck, so there is a drawback, it sounded really nice when I still had the stock Hpipe on though!

As to the flows, I dont understand the hype about rust I hear on the net. I had one on my z28 for a few years. The whole system even came off and got dragged down the highway at 70mph because of a dumbass welder dude that didnt know how to weld. That muffler was tuff man. Then it went on my friends chevy pickup and sounded awesome for another 5 years. Both vehicles were year round drivers.

yeah the flowmaster catback is around 350$ and i do love the way they sound. either the super 40's or super 44's and i really want that sound! the only thing im not to sure about for flows though is that it wouldnt be stainless steel at all. and the tips are just chrome so it would look good at first but can potentially rust fairly fast....especially if i drive it in the winter. plus the catback that comes with super 44's i was looking at only has 2.5" tips. i want much bigger tips..somewhere from 3 to 4 inchs. Im considering a magnaflow catback now. there just under my price range at about 500$ but will they sound really good? anything like flows? and if i do get magnaflows should a get the normal catback or the magnapack catback???

Go slp Loudmouths. That is what I have on my car and love them. The sound is amazing. It makes it sound so much better when you get to doing motor work as well. I will try and post a video of what mine sounds like.

You really aren't going to get too much stainless steel at your price range.
Stainless catbacks are all over 500 bucks.

As far as 3+ inch tips, it's all in personal tastes, but IMO big tips don't look natural, kinda a ricer mod to do big exhaust tips with no performance gain. 3's i could tolerate, 4's are just plain idiotic.
