Hey everyone. I just bought a 2003 ford mustang gt with only 14,000 miles on it. I plan on keeping it for a long time so i want to put some money into it. I was wondering what are some cheap mods i can do for the car to get some extra power? What is the best cold air intake to get? If you can also tell me about how much i would be expected to pay for each thing then i would appreciate it. I have about $1000 to spend. I definitely would like exhaust. I preferbly want flowmaster because i like the sound. The guy at this one shop told me that all i would need to do to the car is just add some flowmaster 40 series mufflers as far as exhaust goes. He told me that i dont need a whole catback exhaust system. How true is that? He also said that would be $200 total to just do that. Also i would like to get a paintjob. The car is yellow and I would like to paint it black. I called ford and they told me that it would be $3500 to repaint the car black. Is that a good deal or is that a ripoff? thanks for the help!

No.1 SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A BLACK CAR.

$1000:
Gears
Chin spoiler
Shifter
Mid pipe
Etc.

If you can install the gears yourself that will save you some cash. The rest of the list you should be able to do with instructions. If you can live with the color awhile longer,3500 will go along way for other mods. I don't know if 3500 is to much for a paint job. I would also get quotes from other body shops that do great work. I have 2 here in KC that I would use. Congrats on the purchase. Pearl02.

the car was my uncles and he bought it brand new back in the day. It was just his toy on the weekend. Thats why the miles were so low. He sold it to me for only $4000 so that is the reason why i didn't just buy a black car in the first place. I also called maaco and they said 1200 for the job. I dont trust maaco though.

Painting a car that already has perfect paint doesnt sound like a good idea.
My car is yellow but thats not why I bought it... yellow wasnt my first choice
but Im not that concerned with the color. Most people compliment the color.
If I was to pick a color it would have been DSG. You might consider some
black accents like wheels or graphics to give it a differnt look.

If you bought the car for only 4 grand, sell it for 10 and go find a clean black one.

There is someone out there who will appreciate a low-mileage yellow GT.

+1000000

To the o.p., PLEASE do this, or just live with the yellow.

btw, the best VALUE for a cold air kit is to simply remove the silencer and drop in a K&N filter. Cost $50, that leaves $950 for good stuff like a shifter, subframe connectors, exhaust, and gears.

Good luck, and welcome to Stangnet.

Dont get Flows , there are much better sounding pipes then flows , and get a mid pipe , worth every penny !

And it seems alittle silly to buy a Yellow mustang when you wanted a Black one ,
good deals always come along , you should have waited it out for what you wanted !

Besides , Yellow Mustangs kick ass !

What is the hp/tq gain on a high flow catted H pipe and just flowmaster 40 series mufflers?

Dont know what kind of hp/tq you get with a mid pipe , but when I installed my SLP it was just louder , I could not really feel to much of a gain , but when I added the ProChamber , I got alot more top end pull , but lost alittle bit of low end grunt , 4.10s took care of the problem:D .

200 for flows is a fair deal, but if you are wanting the performance and sound do the full cat back. stock gt exhaust is kinked and air flow is not as good as a mandral bent tube. i'd spend the extra money to get a full cat back. I also vote not to paint the car, you either have to basically fully disassmeble or live with yellow engine bay/ door jams. stay away from a cheap paint shop if you do decide to get it done though. for a grand i would vote cat back system (i went with slp loudmouth) and some lowering springs/caster camber plates, i like the H&R springs but i have the eibach pro-kit on mine, for now. probably could get a mid-pipe too. and a chin spoiler and window tint for the look...but zero on the performance.

Keep the car yellow. Changing colors is a PITA and if its not done right then it looks like total crap. To do it right would cost over $5000.

As far as mods, this is what I would do:
SCT programmer: $250 used and unlocked
MAC cat back: $250-$350
Eibach Pro springs: $200
MAC H-pipe: $130
LMR sub frame connectors: $70+$70 for installation

The car will ride better and be much more solid. It will have a nice deep growl and pick up 20 horses or so from stock :nice:

I talked to this guy at an exhaust shop. He said $400 for the flowmaster catback exhaust system 2 1/2 inch aluminum pipes and that includes labor and everything. He said it would be another $100 if i wanted stainless steel. Anyways I was looking at mid pipes on Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle and they all say that they either require long tube or shorty headers. I want to know which High Flow H pipe or X pipe would fit my stock headers. I dont want to spend the money on headers to. Thanks for all the help so far guys. One more thing. If you get a cold air intake, should you also buy a 70mm throttle body also?
