I was interested in getting a hand helf tuner in the near future, but i had a few questions (i searched some of threads for info, but didn't quite find what i was looking for).

Say I get a SCT Tuner from AM.com, how good will there custom tunes be versus a custom tune from a peformance shop?

Also, can someone please explain what sniper tunning is. Is it a shop that does custom tunes or do they sell their own hand held tuner, or do they do both?

I'm basically just looking to get a hand held tuner that will help me get the most HP out of my bolt on's (throttle body, plenum, and intake will be installed soon) and adjust my speedometer for the larger tires that I currently have and if I decide to get gears in the future.

The BEST advice anyone can give you is to go to your local Dyno tune shop that work ONLY on mustangs, and have them SCT chip your Stang and if at that point you wish to buy the hand held unit , the tune will be set on the dyno for your specific vehicle.

I don't know if there's really an local Dyno shops right by me (im out by chicago). And i have a feeling that would be pretty pricey.

Has anyone had any experience with Brenspeed, they seem to offer a custom tune with a SCT X3 tuner as well, would that likely be a better tune than from AM?

First I would find a reputable dyno guy and and buy what he tunes with.

Sniper a little different then sct or diablo. With sniper you create tunes on your computer then load them up to what they call a interface and then load the tune into the car. The interface will hold up to 5 tunes so you dont have to keep a laptop with you. I have it and its pretty good. I recomend it but again buy what the reputable dyno guy is using which is most likely sct.

As everyone said a local shop would be your best bet. But with the mild stuff you have done, no cams and headers etc, you could probably call some performance places such as brenspeed or modular power house etc and I am sure they have files on hand that will work great from previous cars. I was going to go with modular powerhouse tune from Tim when I had my old 00 gt, but never got there.

I do agree with this statement. However, the key is to find a good tuner. I went to a guy who was suppose to be good. My car was dyno tuned by him. I ended up with crappy tunes and I had to "tweek" the tunes myself. I eventually set my car back to stock. I have the usaual mods. I now working with another guy who I know from another forum. I'll let you know how his tunes work out. Pearl02.

Heard great things about them, their located in Illinois. I live in Milwaukee and I'm taking my procharged mustang there this up coming week. O and they use diablosport, I picked up a slightly used unit on eBay for about $250.00, and you have to pay usually about $325.00 for them to tune your car but may take longer so could cost more.
