when i shut the doors on my mustang they make a clanging sound ( thats the best way i can describe it). what im wondering is if any of the moving parts are worn/needing to be replaced. is there anything i can replace to get my doors to make that crisp thud sound that newer cars make when the doors close?

Yep usually the hinges go, and makes them sound awful as they smack the latch bolt off.

To make it sounds like a newer door, you gotta insulate and sound deaden, even then it wont even come close. Good luck though. I couldn't get it to stop making the oldschool twang as I shut it. Just a nice solid Latch of the bolt.

If its clanging from a part thats come loose? Or just lack of thud sound?

You can do all the above and more,
New hinge Pins, grease everything, New moulding between door and body, sound deadening/insulation, new window wipes/moulding, window alignment bushings, or more.

It all depends how bad it is, and good you want it to be. (and what your willing to pay)

What about the door striker bolt/bushing? Is that little plastic bushing that goes around the striker bolt cracked or missing? I've replaced those on a couple different Foxes and it made a HUGE difference in how solidly the door latches.

Also, give your door latches a good squirt with some WD-40 or something similar, just for good measure.

The grey plastic bushings DO make a big difference. (Also fixed my alignment problem with the hatch)
Its hard to believe, but i will second that.
Took me a few days to find them on line and order them, THEN, found out that Murrays/Orileys right down the street carrys them in their "Help" parts section, DOH

I hate the way my passenger door closes, it's always bothered me since I got the car. The driver side closes lke a brand new car but the passenger side really sucks. I just read this and went outside to look at 3 am because I just had to know if both striker bushings were there. Needless to say the driver side has the bushing but the passenger side doesn't!! I just ordered one for $2.50 off CJ Ponyparts... if it fixes the problem it will be THE BEST $2.50 I've ever spent!! Thanks for the idea guys. :nice:
