Hello to all and "what about tint?"

First off I'd like to greet everybody as this is my first post in the forums. I picked up my 2007 Grabber Orange GT (didn't see any pictures of this color in the pictures thread...) last Saturday. I've been wanting one of these beasts since I saw the first Transformers movie.

My first question is about the tint. I read something like 360+ reviews on one website the day after buying and I saw quite a few complaints about the tint getting scratched due to lack of felt on the door. I know how the internet and forums work when it comes to complaints (the ones who are satisfied speak up waaaay less) so I just want to get the general opinion of the members here. I hate how windows look without it but I hated how my tint looked when my 05 Accord scratched it up.

there are two possible fixes.

1. Go to a tint shop and ask them if they can install moleskin when they tint the windows. Most reputable shops will either have it on hand or know where you can get it.

or

2. order part #8R3Z6321456A Door - Interior trim - Belt w strip Belt w strip Right 2008 - 2009 from Ford or an authorized dealer.

I personally have the moleskin on my 05 and have had no problems.

Sound advice as well.

I got two tickets for my tint on my first vehicle after moving into VA. The second was less than a week after the first before I had gotten around to taking it off. I don't remember what I was going for but the officer's light gauge read below 20% for the front windows. I remember it being considerably lower than what I had asked for at the shop.

I believe state law says 35% in the rear, 50% in the front. I'll have to doublecheck.

Legal tint normally is hardly any tint at all. I consistently get 35 on the windshield, 20 or 15 depending on color for the front two windows, and five on the back three. With Mustangs I usually black out the quarter windows with vinyl since they are useless anyways; The vinyl doesn't leave the ugly metallic "ring" around the window matrix either.

That's all well and good until you move to a state with inspections. I brought my stang from Florida to Hawaii and got reamed. Not only did I have to remove my 20% tint and replace it with 35%, but I also had to remove the CDC rear quarter window scoops since you are not allowed to obstruct rear windows on passenger vehicles in this state.:notnice:

Hopefully I won't have to move any time soon! :nice:

I would love to duplicate your setup. Unfortunately, VA police will use any little excuse to pull you over and cite your for your tint. Happened to me twice on my first car here and it wasn't even that far from legal.
