Ok the guy called me today the rear is shot...LOL...the posi unit blew apart...chipping the gears and throwing metal threw the whole rear so needless to say he has to rebuild the whole unit new everything... The total cost will be like $900 new posi unit 3.73's all new bearings,,seals...fluid speedo gear how does that sound?...Oh yeah it had 3.27's its an 93 GT vert with an AOD im going 3.73s now will i notice a difference in how the car performs?..will it be better the when it had the 3.27's...and by how much do you think?

What the hell happened to blow apart the rear end? Those things are usually pretty solid, its usually the axles that go first.

Rear end rebuilds are expensive if you don't do them yourself. I think 900 sounds about right. My boss paid something like 1200 bones to rebuild the rear end in his '95 Firebird. Don't know how good your skillz are, but I rebuilt my rear end myself with the car on jackstands in a 1-car garage back in my college days with a bunch of hand-me-down tools. Do your homework and don't cut any corners, and you can do it yourself.

Yeah he showed me the broken posi unit where the pin goes thru by the spider gears it was split in two...It could have been a defective posi case???...he said he has never seen anyting like it..and let me tell you this is my daily driver 93 GT AOD convertible i dont beat on this car at all since i owned it..maybe before me there beat the crap out of it he said it was opened up before he can tell my the friction material used on the discs for the posi....And you know what for $900 dollars im getting a new ford motosports posi unit new Motorsport gears...and complete fors motorsport bearing kit new speedo gear and his labor for $900 i dont think thats too bad...Plus this shop that my car is at my 87 vert is there getting motor work done/supercharger done...This is all he does is Mustangs so i trust him....:nice:

I had to have the rear completely rebuilt in my old 89 because all the bearings had rusted out in it and everything was contaminated. It cost me about $700, but I had already given the shop a trac-lock rebuild kit (thats the reason he opened it up) so I didn't have to get a new diff. So that doesn't sound too far off to me.
