Trick Flow Stage 1, stock heads

I have the engine out of my car right now for a new set of rings and bearings. I figured it would be more convenient to put a cam in now while it's easily accessible.
I have been searching and realize power gains will be very minimal with stock heads and intake. But I have plans for aluminum heads in the future.

My question is, can I do any damage to my valves or stock rockers by running a Stage 1 Trick Flow cam?

imo I think it would be a waste of time. the only thing I would be concerned about is the valve springs. I forget what the stockers are rated at but it would be worth checking into. but you are correct you wont be gaining too much with the bottle neck top end.
 
If your putting a cam in and doing the topend later, why not get a custom cam when you actually know what topend your going with.BTW whats so hard about putting a cam in with the motor in the car?I just did it with my lincoln and mustang.You have to get upgraded springs thats just dumb not to even if the stock springs were barley rated for them, there also how many years old?

Just wait and do it all at once i think you just want the cam in just to say/hear it.

..and no you cant do any damage im running stock rockers just cuz aluminum rockers=$160 and hp gain prolly less then 10hp.

Trick flow is: 0.499 int./0.510 exh. lift. And duration at 50 is 221/225.

I don't remember stock, I believe its .444/.444 lift. :shrug:


I already realize that it's a waste of time, trust me I have done lots of searches. I just wanted to know if I am going to have horrible problems with valve float or not. Who knows, I might not even have to money for the cam when I am done. But it would be nice to know if I could run it or not.

Like i said even if "they" say the springs would barley work.Springs kits are cheap from trick flow not to mention why would you want to run springs that are that old not like your going to be easy on the motor.Hence why your buying a cam not just for the sound right?
 
You are going to have valve float, maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow, but it will happen.
An upgraded cam will exploit stock e7 springs quickly.

I understand why you want to do it now instead of later, but in reality it's really not that much more work to just do it later.
Way back i put a crane 2030 (or 31 i can't remember) in a stock engine for the same reason, floated the hell out of the valves, made the car less driveable.
 
Do it, you wont notice much of a gain till you get new heads and intake, but if you are redoing the whole engine and plan on upgrading later, do it while the engine is apart, its not going to hurt anything. It would be more ridiculous to tear down an engine twice in a few months, than put a new cam in a stock motor imo, I had a bcam in my car when it was stock and I loved it.

Definitely get new valve springs, when you get new heads, be it gt40's or not, just swap over the springs.
