Hey guys, im not too familiar with tuning a car, as a matter of fact my 95 5.0 was fast as heck and with all the work i did to it i never got it tuned. However with my 97 gt i already have an h pipe, flowmaster catback, CAI and i plan on getting PI intake and Cams and Steeda pullies (have heard good and bad things about pullies) and later on down the road a blower. However after doing the pi swap (without heads) and with everythng that i already have is a full dyno tune that costs 500 bucks what i really need?

IMHO, unless you are having drivability issues, or have maxed your maf, you don't need a tune unless you want another 5 rwhp or so from a leaner mixture and more timing.

Wait... one thing to consider is that the above is based on the fact that the factory maf is tuned already, but a CAI changes that a bit. It's still not a problem becasue the factory tune is conservative. If you ever run anything leaner than the factory mixture with a CAI, get a custom tune to be on the safe side.

You're fine with the exhaust and CAI. You will probably even be ok with the PI intake. But that might put it at the limit. It's not that the MAF cant compensate, it's that the ECM can only add fuel so much beyond the base tune. Its worthy to note that this amount is nowhere near the needed to compensate for anything significant.

If you swap cams, get a tune.

Completely untrue.

Well, don't get pulleys if you plan on a blower later. You'll just have to put the OE pulleys back on for that.

IMO, with the H-pipe, catback and CAI, you don't need a tune. As long as the MAF isn't saturated the PCM will add the right amount of fuel for whatever amount of air the engine is consuming. And at the airflow you'll see, the MAF won't be anywhere near saturation.

You probably won't need a tune with the PI intake and cams as they are pretty mild.

With a blower you'll need a tune, whether it's supplied in chip form by the blower maker (like KB does) or a custom, post-install tune.

In other words, none your mods requires a tune except the blower and so I'd wait until you have all the mods including the blower on the car before going to a dyno.
