Aftermarket Hood Question

Yeah I was wondering about the fogging in the cooler temps. I'll deal w/ that when the time comes. I'll give you a call tomorrow after I get out of work about saturday.

I assume you can still use the latch, I intended on it.

Do you have any of under the hood where you mounted the pins?

My latch was nasty looking... i deemed it unfit to go with the rest of my engine bay.

I welded my top nut to the metal... just tapped them lightly with a rubber mallet to straiten them out.

i cut a small slit in the underside of the hood to get the striker plates inside. then riveted the top plates in place

You can see the holes i had to cut in the underside to get the striker plates up and in.

The yellow car is my best friends cobra.

oh so you put them through the factory holes where the hood stops were?

From what Ive been reading your are suppose to use the hood latch unless you are running a total of 4 pins, 2 more in the back.

yea turned the pins in to stops.

Were you still able to use the factory rubber stops on the pins or were yours just missing anyway and thats why you used the RX-7 ones?

Travis dont disregard the stock latch use it in conjunction with the pins.

Yeah I was not going to rich even if there was an option not to use it. It does offer quite a bit of holding power.

the only problem I have had was them rusting. make sure 100% of the parts are stainless..IIRC, the autozones will rust, and the ford racing pins are ss, but the clips will rust!

Wonder if there is anything you can coat the clips with to keep them from rusting? I figured the auto zone ones would from what I read in the link I posted about the install. Anything that is cheap is cheaper for a reason

i still use my latch. If not, then anyone can walk right up and pop your hood. at least the stock latch has a locking feature. i can get pics similar to Adams if you want them.

you can see they are also mounted in the stock bumper stop location. i think the bumpers are the stock ones drilled out actually.

The problem I have with those locks is that they don't look very strong. If you pair them with the stock hood latch, then they may be fine as a supplemental reinforcement.

I'm particularly fond of the Aerocatch locks, myself: AeroCatch

That looks like good stuff. The C-17s I work on have similar latches on all of the exterior servicing panel doors.

Thanks for the link on the Aerocatch latchs. They are a lil costly but I really like them..

I was going to use 1 hood pin under the hood for safety, to keep the hood down just incase the latch failed..

No offense to anyone but IMO-having the chrome pins protruding through any hood thats not a race car, just looks ridiculous.. JMO:D

The hood pins with cables look cool but after a while your paint will see the consequences from the flapping cables.:notnice:

Last - I like the cheap pins that take a key better then the ones with a pin..But like I said They just dont look that great to me..
