I need to fill my cars Automatic Transmission and Power Steering Fluids, I went all around the auto parts shops in my country to look for Type-F but with no luck.

I recently purchased a 1966 Mustang 289 C-code with Automatic trans and power steering, from the US and had it shipped abroad to my country and I realized I will not Find Type-F as older ford cars are not common so demand for Type-F is not required.

My question is is there an equivalent to that which I can buy and fill my car with as a permanent switch?

If not then is there another power steering fluid I can use till I sort this out. I need to drive the car for approximately 6 trips of 30mins each So if I can fill the power steering with a different type/grade fluid temporary and flush it when I get the Type-F

If there is not permanent replacement I will need to order some Type-F ATF from the US and have it shipped to my country. (if some one can help me out with this if this is the last resort that would be helpful)

BTW either way I need to fill my power steering fluid,, so I need an alternative as the reservoir is empty, for the auto transmission I can wait a while but not for the power steering.

Are there no Ford dealers in your country? Which, by the way, you did not identify.

Im in Bahrain its a small island in the middle east, we have only one Ford dealer but they do not stock part etc... for older cars, they have parts etc for cars from the 90s + anyways Motorcraft stopped producing it also, and the dealership doesnt carry other brands.

Cant I put Type-M by motorcraft???

Type "M" would be Mercon, it's different from type "F". If your transmission was rebuilt and all that was used in it since the rebuild was Mercon, then that's what you should use. For the P/S, that's something else. Seems to me that the dealer would stock Ford P/S fluid, that would most likely be the old type F.

btw how many quarts would i need in the owner manual it say 4 pints which is 2 quarts where as in mustangunlimiteds catalog it says much more 9 quarts for the transmission as for the power steering nothing is mentioned

Do an internet search for "Bahrain Sport Parts". Don't know if they have the Type F fluid, but they mention GM and Ford vehicles and parts.

I went ahead with Mercon V from motorcraft for the Power Steering, Im just wondering whats the worse that could happen with the power steering with wrong fluid?

as for the transmission I waiting to know what the person who rebuild it used after the rebuild and I found a lead thanks to a fellow mustanger from france, he pointed out
Total ATF 33.

So I went to Totals Agent in my country and they do not stock it but the guy in charge said he might be able to order it for me and he will get back to me.
