best way for 12s?

Oh yea, 12s are easy if your starting point is a '87+ engine with a T5 behind it. This car, though, is an E6 headed, AOD car- you're hard pressed to start with anything slower than that, haha.

Tru-dat!!! :D Might as well pull that drivetrain and take it to the scrap yard for cash towards another engine.

for 15 grand i better get a new crate motor, i dont want my motor, you think i could get it all installed for this?

any performance shop that has worked on mustangs before should easily be able to put you in the 12s with 15k. dont even tell them 15k. just say i have this car with this motor and this trans and i want 12s. 12.5s at that so they dont just put you at a 12.9. then let them do some calculating and i think youll be surprised at how much money your gonna have left over for brakes

Consider the ford racing gt40x crate engine.
No it's not top dog in power, but it's factory reliable, has a 12,000 mile warranty and comes with all new ford parts.
You can easily add a vortech to it later.

i think iam going with a crate 347 motor, and trickflow heads , intake, and cam. 4.10s out back, rebuild the aod trans up to take the extra hp. try it and see if iam happy, next year do the suspension.

Consider a tremec trans instead of dropping tons on an aod, a well built aod is pretty expensive, not to mention manual trans will increase the fun factor by 10x.

Your post makes it sound like you're planning on a Trick Flow cam- don't do it. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a true custom cam from someone like Ed Curtis, Buddy Rawls, Cam Motion, Bullet Racing Cams, etc.

hey sharad i might go your way, how much would you estamite all this would cost me? including the reman shortblock. by my s;peed shop? not looking for big hp just want to dust the new cars out there now, low 12s seems like most are turning.

used S-trim $1500

MAF conversion $500 +/-

UPR suspension front & rear 1300 with shocks & struts

converter 200 +/-

gear 400 installed

tires 400 installed

Reman shortblock from LRS is 699 assembled, but a $3500 crate motor down the road is not a bad idea.

Just a rough estimate there. :nice:

so around 9 to 10 grand might do it? all installed? up here in seattle there is like 2 mustang shops , both are top rated, guys drive 2 to 500 miles to have them do work, they havent emailed me back yet for a rough estemate , tomm. i hope, before i make a big mistake and go buy this 2012 lava red gt.

It would do you well to do lots of reading and become well versed in how a modded Fox comes together. That away you will know if you are getting bs'd or not. I don't want to discourage you any, but I have read lots of horror stories about "great shops" that ended up being real hacks.

not worried at all about their work, its the top rated shop up here, thinking with this set up it should be fun as hell to drive, and not too wild, hell i bought this gt new, might as well own it till i go down low, lol, just want it to get started, been wanting to do it for like 3 years now, back and forth about buying a new 2011 gt.

Well the new GT's are pretty awesome. However, in a couple of years they will be all over the place and you will still be making payments on it. Where as the Fox likely isn't so common anymore in your area. I know mine is the only one in the parking lot 99% of the time. Plus since you are the original owner, that makes it even more special.

i hear you lars, i,ve been reading up on all the new stuff they heve out now, trickflow and others, i dont really like the looks of their stuff, like the stock upper better for looks but the trickflow just seems to performe better then gt40? it would be perfect to go gt40 for more stock looks but i need the hp.

same way up here, there are no nice 85,86gts up here either, most are all hacked up, mine is still pretty nice, no dents paint still shines, interior still like new, been wifes car all the time, now its mine. and time to make it a little bit faster.
