one bag

@Tim

How would you bug out in a SHTF scenario? Bicycle, motorcycle, on foot, 4x4 etc? Given if the roadways are clogged Id go for a bicycle or water travel if you happen to live close to a river.
We have a 4x4 SUV for starters, to get us to the countryside. Bicycles for mainstay travel, after that. We live in a predominantly rural area, so bugging out here isn't what it is for people on the coasts or in largely dense urban areas.

Read also: I can drive 10 miles in any direction from my house in a small town, today, and be in the middle of a field or forest.

@Tim

What worries me about our location is that:

A. TVA Sequoyah nuke plant about 10 miles from the house
B. TVA Watts Bar nuke plant about 60 miles north of us
C. TVA Browns Ferry nuke plant about 90 miles south of us
D. The Oak Ridge complex about 90 miles away

Which = 1 big cluster fawk given a major natural disaster or terrorist event. Now that being said, we can in about 15 minutes be on one of several "mountains" we have in the area. Would it matter, maybe not.........maybe it would.

Yeah, those definitely aren't good venues to be sitting next to when SHTF.

What about any nearby relatives or good friends? Any of them in a good spot/site?

All of my relatives live in the same town, Wendy's family lives in South Florida around the Ft. Lauderdale area.

God forbid if something DID happen it would be better IMO just to hunker down and stay put.

good thread idea tim, I've been thinking about doing this myself and making a BOB. Search any surplus stores for a mil. pack bag. you can fit LOTS crap in those and would be a good option as they're pretty comfortable too.

OAN we've got our own plane at the house soooo....thats kinda nifty LOL. 4hrs flt time (we can get to billings MT in that span) and it'll carry 1400 lbs of crap

Nice list, mate. :cheers:

Yes, I need to hit up a surplus store, for sure, as those are the best value in equipment of the container/holding/on your person kind.

I have a huge list of links over at Amazon that has been compiled over time. It's good stuff! ;)
When I'm dong with my bag, I can share it if you guys want to see it.

well hell ya! :nice: I threw in the short wave because you can get a HELUVA long way on them and there's thousands of people out there that are constantly monitoring the short wave as a hobby.

I know my roomate will go out on a ruck and he can fit 150 lbs of CRAP in that pack of his :p

Several of you have taken the militant viewpoint of this type of concept. I'm looking for the practical family man approach. Let's say you get one carry-on bag each in a family of 4.

What do you pack in the event something unexpected happens and the loudspeaker says "One baggage item per person."?

A credit card.

Packing done.

And here I thought this thread was going to be about quasi-ugly women.
