What did I buy?

Hello everyone!
My Firebird ate it about a week ago. After taing a break from fords for several years I spotted this mustang at a local dealership my good friend works at. During the test drive I couldnt help giggling like a kid everytime the suprcharger kicked in. I bought it 10 minutes later. Heres the embarassing problem...

I virtually know nothing about Mustangs, or their performance parts. I do know it has a Roush kit, TCI ratchet shift, electronic exhaust cutout, and a sticker in the engine compartment signed by Mario Andretti that says "organ donor".

Sad to say if it was my oldl car I could tell people anything about it. Now, I'm just a little embarassed when someone asks about it and I really have no clue...
I'm including some pictures while I spend hours scouring these boards looking for other info. If anyone can tell me what the hell I actually bought, what the approximate hp rating would be, what the 196 decal means on he bumper I'd really appreciate it.

Looks to me like you bought a roush mustang. Or a GT that has had some roush parts added to it. Either way those graphics need to go and you need to larger rims IMOP.

Could have been a regular mustang that was brought into roush to have the work done.

You got yourself a very clean Mustang! Congrats on getting back into a Ford and condolences for the loss of your Firebird.

The "196" on the bumper may be a serial number that Roush applies to the vehicles it "produces". Maybe you can call Roush, give them your VIN, and ask if they have any info on the new-to-you car?

I think I remember reading something about the "organ donor" cars. If I am remembering correctly, they were regular GT cars, but had a Roush conversion done as an aftermarket upgrade (post sale) by a Roush authorized company.

If that is correct, then it should be a numbered car and registered with Roush. You should even have a dash plate if this is a real "organ donor" car.

A lot of times, dealers (especially non-Ford dealers) dont know stuff about cars like this. It might be a GT with some bolt ons......it might be a numbered Roush Organ Donor car. Depending on the price, it might have been better not to say anything and get it for a GT price rather than a Roush price.

About 2 years ago, I went to a (used) dealership to look at an 04 GT that was on their lot. It had some Steeda wheels, CAI, and stickers. They wanted 5k over book because it was a "Steeda". I laughed at them and asked how often they saw an actual Steeda car......they said this was their first. I drove away.

vertigasen, yea I can see the buyer maybe noticing a special edition vehicle and keeping hush hush about it to get it at a lower price. But I can't see a dealership, any dealership, letting a car like that fall in their hands and not looking to get every penny out of it. Maybe, maybe, a BMW or Mercedes dealership...they wouldn't know a Mustang from a Taurus...haha!!

That is just it, there is so little info on the Organ Donor cars......even some Ford dealers would probably miss it and write it off as a "Roush clone" car. I can get everything that he has on that car off the shelf. Just because I stick it on the car, make a sticker......it doesn't make it anything other than a GT with some bolt-ons and stickers. If Roush did it, then it might be worth a little more (not a whole lot more, but a little). Search on the interweb thing for Roush organ donor, there is nothing there. That is why I brought up that I read it somewhere a couple years back. I wish I remember where I read it.

I know Saleen did some stuff like this a few years back. You could take your already-purchased Mustang to the Saleen factory and they would do the work-over on your car. They did it because, while you might have wanted a sonic blue 04 Mustang, with their limited production numbers and options....you might not have got everything you wanted just the right way with a pre-built car. I think you can still do that with Saleen....and maybe Roush. The key here, it will never be listed as a Saleen. When you register your vehicle, then it is listed as a Ford or a Saleen. If you took it to Saleen....it will always be a Ford.....if you bought it from a dealer as a Saleen.....its always listed as a Saleen. Hope that makes sense. It is 3:30, so I might just be rambling at this point.

I read some where that Organ donor cars were previously v6 cars and had gotten a v8 swap. I am not 100 percent sure if this is the case but if it is....You got ripped lol.

Actually, after reading this....I am pretty sure you are right.

But why did he get ripped? Because his title should say V6. He should be set either way. If the dealership sold him a GT, yet the VIN says V6.....he can sue and get some money returned because of that (it is illegal in EVERY state to sell a car under a false representation).....if not, he gets to insure a supercharged v8 at a v6 price. Here is the kicker tho, if this is a Roush Organ Donor car.....it is worth more than a GT. All he would need to do is get the Roush Cert. He gets that, and he is set.

OP, PM me your vin. I will make a couple of phone calls after the holiday to get some stuff straightened out.

slayerripkdc, I doubt the validity of that claim. Why would anyone buy a V6, rip the drive train out and then replace it with a supercharged V8 engine(along with everything else needed for the swap to work). That would cost a substantial amount more money (parts and labor) than just buying a V8 and throwing a blower on it. I don't see the logic in any company doing that...I may be wrong but I just don't think that would be practical or profitable for any company to do.

It's been done before and the answer is because the motor they used was purpose built for a blower. I'm not saying that, that's what's been done here but that the likes of Roush, Saleen, the makers of the Super Snake, have bought basement priced V6s before, in order to add THEIR packages to it.

Gotcha...and just to clear up my last post, I wasn't coming at slayerripkdc in any way. I re-read my post and I think I sounded a bit snobbish...my bad. I just never heard of Roush or Saleen using the V6's for their kits. I've always seen that they modify V8s and then number them. But I guess I learned something new today...
