I don't think you'd get away w/ it. I think the above pic works because it's really still just a white car w/ a black'd out center on the hood. The "jump" you are asking about would have no continuity between the hood and sail panel.
I like your idea to keep it all black. My personal preference is to stealth-i-fy the contrasting trim and stripes w/ a flat black trim and stripe (or even a textured (like truck bed liner textured stripe maybe) for the sake of contrast.Man, tough crowd!Well, throw some ideas at me, then.
