Dome Light Issues

Ever since I've had my car, the dome lights have not worked. I've tried a few things, but no luck.

-The dome can be manually switched on with the two rocker switches on the light itself. The lights do not turn on when either door is open.

-I replaced both door jamb switches, I now have the chime w/ keys in the ignition, but still no dome lights.

-The dimmer switch does not turn on the dome lights.

Any help would be appreciated.

You are probably going to need a wiring diagram to see how the thing works. I would hazard a guess that you have a wiring issue from the dimmer switch to the dome light, seeing as how the dome light doesn't come on when you click the dimmer to maximum.

Does the light in the hatch area come on with the dimmer to max? This should illuminate, if it doesn't I would start by replacing the dimmer. If it DOES turn on the rear light, then it is a wiring issue between the dimmer and the dome light.

Well here's an update for anybody who's searching.

I learned something today. 92-93 Mustang dome lights feature three separate light bulbs. Two bulbs for the manually controlled lights and then one light bulb for the dome light. My car was missing the single dome light bulb and I never spotted the empty socket. So there you have it: knowing is half the battle.

You just saved me a ton of time! I hadn't the same I issue and was just about ready to start hinting open wires.

That third bulb is damn hidden! Anyway thank you!!
