Well, my future combo has changed a couple of times. Originally it was going to be a set of RHS 215 heads with an Anderson N71 and long tubes. Then the RHS heads gave way to AFR 185's, then my long tubes would not clear my k-member, and now the N71 has officially been shelved for a FTI custom cam (N71 and springs for sale BTW).

Anyways, besides stating all that, I was wondering what kind of experience you guys had with FTI. I know Ed is very busy, but I feel like getting information and getting questions answered was very difficult. I almost decided to give the custom cam the axe until he finally responded to my last email. He still hasn't answered all my questions pertaining to the cam. All I know is that I am getting a "custom cam" with an operating range of 2800-6500rpms. Is it common to not get anymore info than this from Ed? I just feel like I was almost bothering him by asking. Some of his emails were very short in response. I am putting a lot of faith in him right now, if it wasn't for his very good reputation, I would have never used him after the communication I had.

Not trying to bad mouth him, I know he has earned his good reputation. Just more or less wondering if I am worried over nothing, and this is a common business practice.

Either way, I am excited about having something custom for my combo. Can't wait to see the cam profile.

Ive bought a cam and and a spring package from Ed. I have sent him numerous emails asking him questions/install questions and he has always been superfast to answer even on weekends. His customer service has been top notch. I'd guess he is super busy at this time of year as people are trying to get there cars ready for the year.

Yeah Ed has a reputation for being "short" on answers at times. I emailed him also and he's a little brusque. He does know his sh it though. I expect you'll be happy with the end results. Good luck and post up your results.

I've never dealt with Ed but the guys that I have dealt with have been either great or terrible customer service wise. I want great customer service plain and simple. In talking with bullet I got the feeling that everything was way more technical than my expertise allowed me to comprehend. I was given grind numbers as reference and had to do the leg work myself. I wasn't happy with that so I went back to my original cam guy Brian "Freezy" Friedentag who always gives me top notch service. He spend the time with me on the phone to answer all of my questions and explained why he was picking the grind that he was picking. Ultimately Bullet ground my cam but to Freezy's specs. The last cam was a killer and made insane power and this new one should step the game up from where we left off last time. Customer service in my eyes goes a long way.

I agree with the customer service aspect. I think that is what kinda bothered me. I don't want to beg someone to take my business, I'd rather have them fight for it.

I feel the same way exactly! The guy that I've been dealing with is always excited to talk to me about cams and will be attending some of my first dyno sessions to see how they go and have some input on the tuning. He also suggested playing with the lash and possibly moving the cam in the motor a degree or two either way to look for more power. I care far more about the customer service than any other aspect of the process. Sure results are great but I want to feel comfortable getting there!

I approached Ed about doing a cam for me a few years ago. He refused to answer some simple questions before getting paid, so I passed and went with someone else.

My first combo I used Ed to grind me a cam and bought some misc stuff to go with it. I was extremely happy with the experience. The couple of questions I did have he answered in what I consider a timely fashion. This new combo I went right back to Ed and had him put together a complete top end package and again very happy with his service.

You really need to contact Buddy Rawls if you want your hand held (Like me).
I have gotten 3 cams through him. All have been extremely positive experiences, and all three cams work as requested.
He does not just answer questions, he explains the reasons for the answer, the mechanics and math behind it and... well, you will have lots to read and likely learn much along the way.
He checks every cam in a motor prior sending it out.
On my most recent cam there were some questions on measurements in my block here in Phoenix... I reported it to Buddy and before we could get to the bottom of it, Buddy had another ground, mocked-up and measured true and sent my way. Try that from anyone else.
Turns out the original was spot on. Really really long story (bearings) that is not worth going into.
At any rate that last bit was to show his commitment to customer service... and that the right cam had arrived the first time.
Do a search on Buddy Rawls one of the other popular forms (cough "Corral" cough) and read his posts and tell me you don't get a warm and fuzzy.
