What Do You Carry And Why?

At work i carry a Beretta 92D with a S&W Airweight backup. On my own time, a Glock 26 Gen 4 with grip/mag extensions. The Glock carries 13 chances to win but is still small enough to wear comfortably and concealed.

Someone I know just got a Kimber 9mm after getting his CCW. I'm jealous. Like having a concealed weapon wearing a tuxedo. Freakin' awesome.

They now offer the S&W Shield without a slide safety. Might be my next purchase.

D, with all do respect, umm a .410 slug out of a judge would rock someone's world, and the snake would be blown the f away with a bb load. Imho.

Most .410 slugs won't pass the FBI minimums for self-defense through a full sized shotgun (I think there are 2 specialty rounds that do). NONE of them pass through a handgun (check box-o-truth). To put that into some perspective, there are many 9mm rounds that make the minimum. I think there are a couple of high end .380 ACP rounds that make it, but they hurt to shoot.

Lots of the muzzle energies I've seen have the .410 caliber rounds I've seen are in the 700-800 range. I saw a specialty round that was up around 1,000 with a 114 grain bullet (lighter than most 9mm Luger rounds). Lots of SD 9mm rounds are 1200-1300. And that's through a full sized shotgun and not the Judge barrel.

Now, the .45 LC through the Judge is another story. It's not bad.

Here's there "blown the f away" snake picture:

Eh, it's probably dead, but this was at something like 3-6 feet . . . which means the shooter could have easily taken 2 steps in three different directions to avoid the snake as opposed to firing the 2 or 3 rounds that it would take to properly "blow away" the snake. :)

The Judge is a quality built firearm, BUT the .410 round just isn't that powerful of a round. No way I'd carry that thing for SD unless it's loaded with .45 LC . . . and if you're going to carry the Judge in .45 LC, eh, there are better options for .45 LC.

Checkout that box of truth article (there are two of them, actually). For SD work, the judge is a BIG heavy (but quality!) weapon shooting a REALLY light round. It's basically the worst of both worlds for carry work.

GREAT quality firearm, thought! I'm sort of a Taurus guy, actually.

I carry a Kel Tec P3AT. It's so tiny it fits perfectly in my front pocket. Super accurate to be so small and never once misfired.

I do a lot of Craigslist deals for electronics but I can't carry at work. So if I meet someone on my lunch break or after work, just toss it in my pocket and when I'm finished it goes back in the glove compartment.

I also have a M&P Shield 40 that I carry on days off. I can pocket carry it but it's much more comfortable on my back/hip.

I also have a pocket knife and a small keychain knife on me as well. You never know when you'll need them.

Found out California bans the .410/.45LC combination specifically. Go figure. It's a state thing but not a federal thing.

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot41.htm

Check that out. There aren't much of any pistol based .410 performance data that's worth doing. Out of a full sized shotgun, there are some decent performers, BUT I can't think of any reason to do it UNLESS the .410 shotgun was ALL you had.

Another funny thing about the Judge is the "snake" thing. People carry it for snake protection, but given the tests, what you'd have to do is shoot 2 or 3 rounds REALLY close and HOPE the snake doesn't strike. The .410 just doesn't have enough payload to reliably get snake kills with one shot. So, in direct terms, here are your choices if you run across a dangerous snake. You stand still in the danger zone, pull the gun, shoot once, hope the snake doesn't strike and/or you kill it, fire again and AGAIN hope you kill it and/or it doesn't strike, rinse and repeat . . . OR . . . you can take 2 steps away and both of you leave unharmed.

Meh . . .

THAT BEING SAID, by all accounts the Judge is a well made gun . . . and I'm a Taurus fan to boot. LOL!

:spit: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT????

Just when I'd thought I'd heard just about everything that's effin retarded about Commiefornia. Must be the direct result of all those drive-bys performed with 45 Long Colt and 410 shotguns.

If I were Commiefornia, I'd be a hell of a lot more worried 45 LC lever action than any other use of that round on the planet.

M&P shield 9mm. Every day at work.
In a cooks fully trackable Kydex holster. And a bunch of under junk.

Why? Because the world is not a very nice place. Working nights in the worst part of Dallas.

I also keep a couple of clips close by.

@Ronin
What is wrong with the word "Clips"? I can not use Hot Rod or Car Craft magazines in my 10/22. Please make me smarter.
When I first started carrrying, I was corrected for saying clips. Magazine is the proper term. Clip is the term the thugs and gangsters use. The Hollywood term, I guess. All the years of action movies has corrupted me.

If you go to the gun shows/shops/etcs, you'll get looks for saying clip. Some of them will talk to you like you don't know what you're talking about. I still say it every once in a while but I try to say the proper term now that I know.

Sorry, to better describe it. A clip is a speedloader type deal. You ever seen a strip with bullets that's fed through the top of a rifle. That's a clip. A magazine is what holds ammo in the gun. More of a technicality.

Yes! I actually have an SKS, as well and that's pretty much how I learned the difference. I love the wood stock and grip, MMM! :uzi:
Just put an adjustable synthetic stock on my Yugo. Now I need a new gas valve to match. Still rocking the stock mag w/ stripper clips but I plan to get a couple high capacity magazines soon. I'm holding on to all of my original pieces. They're all matching serial #'s and in pretty good shape for a 70's model. But I don't own a gun I won't shoot so I needed a longer stock to hold it comfortably.

I'll probably buy some rubber grenades so I can play with the grenade launcher. I love this gun. 7.62 x 39 is about the same price as 22LR in my area right now. One of my cheapest guns to shoot. It handles steel casings like a champ.
