Build Thread Want To Blow 5 Years And $50k On A Foxbody? Step By Step Instructions Inside!

Come on @RacEoHolic330 , I need an update.

Your like a pusher, you give us the good stuff, then you make us beg:cry:.

Come on, post more pictures! Because of you, I feel completely inadequate about my undercarriage.

So lift the skirt and show us more! You're giving me reason to do changes to my car.

Man, it's like a pack of hungry wolves in this place.

I actually have been doing a lot of work on the car the past few weeks. Been somewhat frantically trying to get it done because it's nearly May and I haven't driven the car once this year yet. It my fault for starting winter projects in February though.

First order of business was getting the exhaust on.

I don't like the look of exposed tip clamps, so I had a local shop tig my 3" tips on the pipes for me. I tacked them on and had the shop do the rest. I'm not setup for stainless.

Then I ground the welds down and smoothed everything out.

After that, it was time to get the pipes polished up. 8 hours to get both pipes done. These did not polish nearly as nice as the Magnaflows did. Whatever process Bassani uses for their mandrel bending really does a number on the pipes. There were deep gouges near all of the bends. I made them look good enough though.

I cut and re-welded all the exhaust hangers on the subframe to get the exhaust to sit exactly where I wanted it to. It took a lot of trial and error, but I eventually got it to sit where I wanted.

The newly V-banded exhuast came out pretty well too. I wrapped everything just because I had extra wrap laying around. The wrap also hides the newly painted welds.

I also wetsanded and buffed the side skirts and rear bumper. They all look like glass now. These are cell phone pictures, but you get the idea.

The interior has also undergone some changes The last time I had the car at the tuner, I had him re-bend my door bars to make them a little more street friendly. Climbing over the NHRA legal door bars got old, so I cut them out and had him bend and weld them back in. That change messed up where the bars mounted to the floor of the car. The holes in the carpet didn't line up anymore, so out came the ACC carpet and in went and OEM black carpet that I had in the basement. The OEM fits so much nicer. I didn't love the idea of cutting up an OEM black carpet, because I think it will be worth some money some day, but it is what I had on hand so I made it work for me. The carpet is flawlessly clean, so I had no issues using it in the car.

The other change you may notice in the interior is those seat bottoms. There is a hell of a long story involving those seats, but I'll give you guys the cliff notes. A few pages back, I posted a picture of a set of SN95 seats. I reupholstered those seats with new TMI covers and foam. They came out great and looked awesome. Once I put them in the car, however, it was a different story. I realized the seats I just spent 7 hours assembling were not actually black, but more of a charcoal black. They clashed big time against the very black interior of my car. They looked back in my white garage, but just didn't look right to me in the car. I worked with TMI and they sent me some other color samples that I could choose from for new seats. I found a true black with a nice pattern that I liked, so I had them make me another set of seats. TMI and me just have a different opinion of what black is. I'm picky to say the least, so I wanted the color to be truly black.

I then decided to go with S197 frames. They sit lower in the car and have a more square shape , which looks better in the boxy fox interior. The frames required a lot of modifications, but nothing some welding couldn't fix. I'll post pictures of those modifications later.

So why are there only seat bottoms in the picture? Well, I waited 12 weeks for the new seats to show up from TMI and they wound up sending me the incorrect backs. I opted for standard backs with head rests, but they sent me high backs instead. I'm waiting on the replacement backs so I can finish the seats. @TMIproducts, please send me those replacements so I can enjoy my car! I have a lot of car shows lined up in the coming weeks.

In other news, the 6 speed swap is all done. I went with an MGW shift knob to finish everything off.

Once I get those seat backs, I'll be ready to roll.

I think I need a cold shower after that post, I can't stop breathing heavy and I want to go spend more time on my car.

You big stud! Just when I think I'm doing something nice, you show me crap like that.

So my wife is right after all.....I AM inadequate!:nonono:

Really, really looks nice brother, I'm serious about you inspiring me with my piece of crap. It'll look nicer because your anal enough to spend eight hours polishing your exhaust!

Very good job, hope you get to be the next darling of the magazines, you deserve it.

Well, I can't comment about your inadequacies, but I will take your kind words! Yours is incredibly far from a piece of crap. I've been impressed with your dedication to get the car done. I'd love to peel my ass out of bed at 3:30 in the morning to work on the car, but I just can't get myself to do that. That's why it's May and I'm still working on my winter projects.

Scott, you never cease to amaze me with your attention to detail and quality of work.

Thanks Mike. Always appreciated!

I started it up yesterday and took a quick idle and rev video. I have an external mic on my camera, and it picked up way more sound in the garage than I though it would, but you can kind of get an idea of how the Bassani's sound. Very similar to the Magnaflows, but with a little more volume and tone. I'm excited to see how they sound under load.

So my OEM front bumper developed a good amount of sag across the headlight area. It really didn't look good, and was noticeable enough to make me hate the bumper. I guess the 25+ year old urethane finally called it quits. I decided to pick up an aftermarket ABS plastic bumper from CJ Pony Parts. I live an hour from them, so I saved a good penny on shipping.

My painter owed me the cutting and buffing of the urethane parts on the car. I opted for a barter instead. I had him paint my new front bumper instead of cutting and buffing the side skirts and bumper. I can cut and buff parts, but I can't paint, so it all worked out. I picked up my freshly painted bumper last week. He must have painted the thing while somebody was sweeping up the shop or something. There was a ton of trash in the paint, and it was all in the final coat. Out came the 1000 grit sandpaper. I got it all cut down nicely. No more signs of trash. I was planning on cutting and buffing the bumper myself anyway, but I didn't expect the paint to be that dirty. I still need to hit it with 1500, 2000, and 3000 before taking the buffer to it.
