RANT!!! Wtf Has Happened To Photobucket?

Photobucket sucked 20 years ago and has gone down-hill since. I'm sure that your most recent experience is the result of 1 of 2 things:

Their algorithm for non-paying users has recently changed
They've changed the way that they display ads and don't have the bugs worked out yet (making it extremely slow for all who see ads)
They are experiencing a distributed denial of service attack (I don't think anyone cares enough to do this)

Just look at all of these happy users: http://downdetector.com/status/photobucket

That link doesn't hold water for the current state of affairs,...as the last report of a WTF was Nov.

Mike, I'm still trying to figure out why anyone uses photobucket here, it is so easy to upload a photo to this site from your device it's ridiculous. Using photbucket is pointless and makes the photos more difficult to view on a mobile device..

I don't use a device. I hate a fckin Ipad, and my phone,.....even worse.
Every time I directly upload a pic from an ipad, the stinkin pic loads sideways.
Everything I post goes through a hosting website so that I have the benefit of a full sized keyboard for the rambling. There have been several instances as of late where the pic won't post from PB,..and comes up as a corrupted file forcing me to use the ipad to post the pics as a direct upload. Then, you get what happened last time I updated my thread. Every stinkin pic posted sideways, I had to delete them, edit the photos by turning them, then re-uploading them where they finally posted correctly.

Android devices don't have those issues... Jus sayin.

Photobucket used to be great, but its gone to hell. I'm probably going to start using Google for that now. Hell, at this point, uploading to my old Angelfire page and hosting from there would be easier than PB.

Mike, I've spoken repeatedly on how to get around that with an apple device. Listen carefully.

It does take a little longer, but is still faster than photobucket. Go to your gallery. Select the photo and tap "edit." Rotate the pic in edit mode 360 degrees. Save the photo. Post that version. Works every time.

thats what i said i had to do,....you don't find that........clunky?

It'd be different if I occasionally posted a pic every now and then,......but I do tend to post quite a few pictures.

When PB works,.there's nothing faster (for me).
But it has progressively bogged down over the last few weeks....yesterday and today,....useless.

Not true. I have a Galaxy S5 (android), and all my pics post sideways too. I also use photobucket (have since starting here in '07), and am having the same frustrations as Mike. Sucks, because I have A LOT of pics saved on Photobucket.

I find it a lot less clunky than copying img urls and pasting. Besides, i only have to rotate 1 in 3 photos. Sounds ridiculous, but still easier than PB imho. I've gotten onto noobz's ass a dozen times about the sideways pics, but he swears it's not the website. Funny, this is the only website that problem occurs on.

Replace your camera app

You could use an alternative camera app, like Camera+, instead of the iPhone’s built-in one. These apps tend to fix the pictures for you regardless of how you hold the phone. You'll just need to remember to use the alternate app when taking pictures.

Are you holding it wrong?

If you’re willing to hold your phone a certain way when you take pictures, then they will show up correctly. See the picture below. The phone’s round ‘home’ button is on the right side. This is the only way the iPhone knows how to take pictures without the rotation problem.

iphone-horizontal.webp

(If the home button is on the left, the picture will be upside down. This is a common trap when people press one of the volume buttons to take the picture.)

Now, look at the picture below. This is a very natural way that many people hold the phone when taking a picture, right?

iphone-vertical.webp

Unfortunately, if you hold it this way, the receiver of the picture will get it sideways. There’s that neck crooking again!

But, what if you really want the picture to be portrait instead of landscape? Then, you’ll need to use an alternate camera app or grab Rotate Mailer from the app store, so you can email those tall portrait shots the right way.

I should probably make this a sticky.

Still true. The Galaxy phones by Samsung have a version of Android that's so **** up in the attempt to make it iPhone-like, that it is, in fact, iPhone-like.

My whole family has Galaxy and iPhone crap and bitches about how it doesn't work right. Meanwhile I'm over here on my cheap LG phone or tablet with their rock-solid reliability and the latest version of Android having no weird problems like sideways pictures.

All you do is open the picture you took, rotate it. Hit save. Rotate it back to the orientation you wanted and save it again. It changes whatever orientation data that gets attached to the photo which for whatever reason the uploader here references. It's easy enough.
