Mine isn't the more expensive one that you can control with your phone and do all that cool stuff with; mine is just the $50 toy variant that just moves around and makes noise.
A few weeks prior to Christmas, my girlfriend and I were at Target in the toy section looking for gifts for her niece and nephew. I saw the BB-8 and geeked out a bit...so apparently she went back and bought that for me. I love that woman. I was even thinking about buying it for her nephew who is 6 and has been all about BB-8 lately.
I have two practical complaints about this communicator.
The first is the 4 screws on the back. The screw heads should been (and will be) covered. I'll probably put small rubber feet over them.
The second I can do nothing about that I'm currently aware of. It should have been designed (perhaps with a downloadable app) to hail my phone and vice versa. As it is, it functions more or less like a Bluetooth speaker with voice control.
Oh... One other thing that would have been nice? They should have used the voice of the Star Trek TOS computer. Maybe even the one form Star Trek The Motion Picture.
