Cluster lights only don't work

I recently bought a 91 gt convertible. ALL the lights in the car work and all the outside lights work. The only lights that wont work are the actually illumination lights in the dash cluster. The turn signal indicators, check engine, brake light, and airbag esc all work on the cluster the only lights that do not are the actually illumination. Ive replaced the dimmer switch with another that worked in another car. I tested voltage at the two plugs that actually go into the back of the cluster and various wire(that I assume are correct) have 12 volts so its getting power. Any ideas help thanks.

This may also be tied to however they wired that electric start. They may have cut a ground to use for the electric start.

I thought I checked all the grounds in that general area ill have to check again. Thanks.

Worth a look. Maybe he spliced into a ground.
