Advice for upcoming supercharged New Edge build

Hey everyone,
I'm beginning the build to supercharge my 2000 GT. My goal is 380-400rwhp and just have fun with it at the track once in a while (it is not my daily driver, but I do plan to track the car).

Current mods are:

5-speed
MAC Cold air kit (that's gonna be gone)
C&L trueflow intake plenum
BBK 75mm TB
Typhoon Intake Manifold
ACCEL coil on plugs
Ford Racing Aluminum driveshaft
Ford Racing Shorty headers
Bassani X pipes w/ hi-flow cats
Steeda catback
King Cobra clutch
3.73's, 31 spline Moser axles, 31 spline tru-trak posi, BBK upper and lower rear control arms, extended lug studs

For the supercharger build, I've ordered the Vortech V3 non intercooled tuner kit, with a "heritage" upgrade (why have the charger if you can't hear it right??)
I have also acquired and SCT X4 Handheld tuner, and have installed an Innovate Wideband, Autometer boost gauge in a instrument cluster bezel.

For fuel, I was thinking of running Ford Racing 47 lb injectors, with a Deatschworks 340 lph direct drop in pump. I've researched that a lot have gotten away with the SVT pump, and many others were maxing it out with the same goal I have in mind. Thoughts?

As for the MAF, I was thinking of running the SCT BA-2600. It can either be run as draw-thru, or blow thru. I plan on running it as a draw-thru for now, and later converting the car (probably next year or the year after) to intercooled Air to Air, and moving the MAF to a blow-thru. Unless, do you advise doing the intercooler already since I plan on tracking the car?

Now, my biggest concern being located on the island of Hawaii - is the tuner....there is a very reputable tuner located here, but I f'd up by not asking him before hand on what software he's used to tuning with. I spoke to his assistant, who said he'll look into it and ask the owner, and will get back to me. But if that falls thru, what are my options? Email tune and contact a resource such as Bama?

Basically really need the help on where/what/who for the fuel, MAF, and tuning support...there really aren't much people here who build SN95's (lots of imports, and lots of wicked ol' school setups...my coworker has a 69' Camaro with a LS swap for example).

Any thoughts, input, advice is greatly appreciated!

Deatschworks should have a tech that can give you info on injectors and fuel pump. The injector size sounds a little high to me but make a call to a reputable source. DO NOT use a canned tune. If you have to change your tuning software and dump the SCT handheld then do it. Canned tune on a supercharged build is an accident waiting to happen. My preference is a switch chip instead of a handheld. I've had both and the versatility of the switch chip was better for me.

I've never read upon a switch chip..what companies are available? or how can I learn more about them?
 
47 lbs is a good size. Gives you upgrade room in case you get forged internals down the road but isn’t excessive. Good to 500 ish rwhp on stock fuel pressure.

I am at 90% duty cycle at the peak of my powerband with a 290lph pump. My Walbro was true drop in / plug and play. 340lph drop in should work well for your build. Make sure your pump has their in tank install kit. Avoid inline pumps.

It is more work up front but I would do the air to air intercooler now. Just need aluminum piping, blow off valve, and a quality three row intercooler. Best to have all your pipes welded.

I'll confirm if the Deatschworks pump comes with everything prior to purchase.

I'm either gonna run that SCT MAF, or the PMAS blow thru since I wont install the charger until I get everything in, including the intercooler.

The tuner is actually supposed to stop by my house tonight to take a look at the car.

For the BOV, I've read guys still having issues with cheap ones. So I guess the Maxflo BOV it is. Buy once cry once, lol

So the tuner stopped by. He had a few questions and comments.
First off, I purchased a Vortech V-3 tuner kit. Do you guys/gals think Vortech would allow me to purchase their ECM reprogramming still (to be used as a base), then modify it with the SCT handheld?
Second, he stated he's familiar with HPtuners. I looked at their website and noted that they now support 99-04 2V's with their MPVI. So if option 1 fails, theres still hope I guess.

I'll give both places a call tomorrow

Custom tune is definitely the way to go. Worst case if your tuner can’t give you a baseline tune to hobble in - you can always tow it.

I have a tial 50mm BOV, it’s really loud :rock:. The BOV is on the driver side right before the intercooler (pre MAF for my blow thru setup). Definitely make sure you get a quality BOV, not a cheap knock off- I’ve heard good things on the maxflo.

Make sure you get a decent powerpipe - the tuner kit pipe is meh. Get a bigger pipe and a generously sized in-fender air filter. You can see I had a custom large power pipe that is the same size as the supercharger intake all the way throughout.

On the front mount intercooler expect some finessing with figuring out the front bumper support. I got a custom aftermarket bumper support (the pictures below don’t have the bumper support on) to make sure that everything had adequate space and so that I was still safe on the road. Some people get custom aftermarket bumper supports, some cut the stock support to get everything to fit. I don’t recommend removing the support entirely.

Where did you tie in your vacuum line from the BOV on your setup? And how did you clear your power steering lines?

I see you’re rocking the Mishimoto intercooler, did you have custom piping or CX racing piping kit?

HPtuners support was really helpful! I will be going with them :nice:

Got multiple polished aluminum 3” pipes in 90 degrees (5), 45 degrees (5), and straight (4) (used this as an example of which pipes: http://www.jpcracing.com/jpc-1996-2004-mustang-gt-intercooler-piping-kit/). Got help from a performance shop for fitting and welding (I can’t weld nearly as nice as they did!!!). Went with a mishimoto intercooler after reading good reviews.

Make sure you get a good air-oil seperator for your crankcase (I like moroso’s kit). I routed two lines to the separator (one from each valve cover) and then there is a line that goes all the way along the top of the radiator and it vents to a small filter next to my air intake filter. My car smells nice and clean / not like oil and fuel fumes.

For the vacuum routing - nice and tight against the battery base, behind the power steering reservoir, and nicely laid in between the other wiring to a nice T on the front of the intake plenum. :nice:

I had mishimoto products from high school (holy crap that was 10 years ago!) and still have some in my G35 today, they definitely make quality stuff!
When you mounted yours, did you bend your power steering cooler lines out the way? I see CX racing offers a relocation kit for it that's why. Looks like they stepped it up with beads on the end of their piping kit, and upgraded their clamps as well. All I would have to do is cut the section where they currently have the BOV, and install the blow thru MAF there, and relocate the BOV after the charger discharge and before the intercooler


Is the catch can necessary for my application with the V3?

Ahhh that picture you provided for the routing is perfect! That definitely helps me out!

Dilemma with boost is that you don’t want to pressurize your crankcase. The direct connection from the valve cover to the intake has to go. Most popular options are:

1) vent it to the atmosphere... boost creates more blow by and oil goes everywhere around the vent. You can no longer enjoy windows down / vent mode on the A/C with out major oil vapors. Recommend against this.

2) Catch can makes it smell normal again. Definitely recommend a catch can. My catch can has a long “exhaust” line that I ran along the top of the radiator to a small k&n filter that I put down in my fender next to my air intake. No oil / fuel smell!

Dang, this is becoming a much more expensive project car than I had anticipated haha.

Thanks for the tips! I looked into the Moroso one and theres lots of positive reviews, and clean install.

I decided against the SCT 2600 MAF, and am now shooting for the PMAS HPX since it's already in a 3" tube. I read throughout some questions and answers from American muscle that 2600 might be a little too much if I'm not clearing a certain whp threshold (greater than 400 or 425).

Glad I dug a bit deeper too, and found the part number for the gas tank filler o-ring, i'll change that out when i drop the tank for the fuel pump.

What spark plugs do you recommend?
 
Ngk 4177 tr6 copper plugs work great. They are one step cooler and a great price. I replace them every 2 years / 15k miles or so (I daily drive my car - that is why my engine bay is a little dirty haha!). I gap them at ~0.035 which is pretty much the gap they measure at coming right out of the box. Moderate boost (10-15 lbs) recommended gap range is quoted as being 0.032-0.035.

American Muscle, and LMR were very polite and helpful as always.
I ordered Ford Racing 47 lb injectors with jetronix to EV6 adapters, Deatschworks 340 lph with install kit fuel pump, PMAS HPX blow-thru MAF, fuel tank filler grommet, NGK TR6 spark plugs, and the Moroso oil/air separator.

All that's needed is the intercooler with associated piping, HPtuners MPVI2, and Tial Q BOV.

Few more questions popped up in my mind while researching the cooler and BOV however.
Anyone ordered an intercooler from siliconehoses? I was looking up intercooler piping made by Shaun on modded mustangs and basically buying the piping from that website (possibly). They have an intercooler on sale that's bar and plate, same dimensions as the CX racing, and states a low 0.35 psi drop (I believe it was that low).
Last question. The Tial Q BOV flange states its meant for 2.5" IC piping...I'm doing a 3"... @Dark04GT, did you use the included flange from your kit and it makes no difference? Or is your piping 2.5"?

My welder didn't like the flange on the pipe I gave him so he fashioned his own custom flange on to a 3” pipe. Pipe size doesn’t matter, work with a quality welder and making a flange for your BOV is “no big deal”. :hail:
