Drivetrain Why does my AOD make a 'whirrring sound' when in gear?

When it's cold, it makes the noise when I put it in any gear except for park and neutral. Once it's warm, no noise at all.

Drivetrain Why does my AOD make a 'whirrring sound' when in gear?

Bringing this back up, I just realized the noise is only present when the car has been sitting overnight and is cold. If I let it warm up for 10 minutes, I can't hear any noise at all. Maybe the noise is normal when it's cold? Thoughts?

Drivetrain Why does my AOD make a 'whirrring sound' when in gear?

If I recall correctly, probably about 10 qts. Yes, I filled up the torque converter before I installed it.

Drivetrain Why does my AOD make a 'whirrring sound' when in gear?

That's the best I can describe it! It's silent in park and neutral but as soon as I drop it into any gear it makes the 'whirring' sound. Noticeable at idle but can't really hear it while driving because of the exhaust tone. Drivetrain out of a '93 Mustang. All I did was drain and install...

Hey whats up! More 2.3 power needed

I'd go with the Fel-Pro just because that's all I've ever used over the last 50 years.

Hey whats up! More 2.3 power needed

IIRC, I had the same problem on my 2.3T. Put a punch inside the base of the dipstick tube and tap the punch, opening up the OD just a tad. Make sure all surfaces are clean then smear a film of Loctite 518 Flange Sealant on the tube...

Hey whats up! More 2.3 power needed

Outstanding! I knew you'd get it figured out! Looking at the first pic, might I suggest adding the factory inner and outer timing cover to the front of the motor. It'll keep all the road debris out of there. You can kinda see mine here. I cut the top circle section off to expose the Racer...

What kind of gas mileage does everyone get?

I'm getting 15 mpg around town. Bone stock '93 5.0/AOD out of a Mustang that I've rebuilt and it's coupled to a 3.31 rear gear. The only addition is Hedman shorty headers and a K&N filter. The drivetrain isn't in a Mustang, it's in my '54 Customline. The Mustang and Customline are basically...

Electrical '93 5.0 won't turn over when cold.

I did just that. Jumped from the small stud to batt stud, w/key on and it fired right up. Ignition switch is a new Standard Products unit and all wiring is new.

Electrical '93 5.0 won't turn over when cold.

12.5v at the batt all the way to the fender solenoid. It had been running fine but suddenly, In the morning when I try to start it I get one click. I pop the hood and jump the fender solenoid from one terminal to the other, with the key on and it fires right up. Also, after I've driven it...

    Resolved 1990 Engine wiring connectors

I swapped a '93 Mustang 5.0/AOD combo into a '54 Ford Customline using the Mustang's wiring harness. Couldn't have done it without one of these. https://www.ebay.com/itm/142955619702?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5335821607&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1 Absolutely...

    Please help dash wiring

EVTM's are good but I'm a firm believer in factory wiring diagrams. I've built many cars from the ground up and these things are invaluable! These were used by factory Ford techs in dealerships. They're specific to each car and detail every circuit in the car. They cost a bit more than an...

Hey whats up! More 2.3 power needed

I'd suggest going over to TurboFord and ask TurboRay what he thinks about your situation. He was a factory Ford tech in the '80's and '90's and is very familiar with our turbo 2.3's. He's a wealth of knowledge.

Hey whats up! More 2.3 power needed

Pretty sure the 225 gallon per hour fuel pump everyone is recommending is actually 225 liters per hour. Big difference. Also IIRC, the MAP sensor needs to be a BAP sensor which actually is just a map sensor with vac line disconnected I think. I'll have to research that or maybe Stingers...
