Where can I find good/cheap replacement BBK header gaskets/bolts?

I went with a Mr Gasket copper gasket. I ended up using some 1" allen head stainless bolts that I paid $5 for all 16 from Pioneer Fastener & Supply in Leesburg Florida.

    Engine-transmission are in the car

Installed my rebuilt engine and transmission today. Fairly straightforward job. Had a engine hoist and transmission jack. The only tough part was wrestling in the drivers side mount. There was a little stud that didn't want to go right in. Ended up loosening the mount from the block and...

    3/4" or 1" header bolts?

Found some allen head stainless steel 1" bolts for $5.00. The BBK bolts are only 3/4" and not going to work with the lift brackets. These will be easier to get to and look much better than the Stage 8. I got them from a place called Pioneer Fastners. The sell bolts for marine and street rod...

Hatch window trim molding/ need to paint

You don't have to remove it. Get some 3M green tape and a razor blade. Tape up to the edge and run the back of the blade along the edges to completely cover the body paint. Get some paper and tape off the car so you don't get any overspray. Lightly sand the metal trim and 2 coats of paint should...

    Roller Rockers

Depends on your set up. I went with FRPP 1.6's.

Safe upgrade path for 88 LX 5.0

You'll need a mass air conversion to benefit most from an aluminum head swap. Cam will depend on heads, althought the stock cam can be used either way. Roller rockers either 1.6 or 1.7. 24lb injectors and an upgraded fuel pump too. Either a ported stock lower or an Explorer Gt 40, Edelbrock...

    3/4" or 1" header bolts?

Thanks for the input. I picked up my engine from the builder on Saturday. Right now I am using the BBK supplied bolts and the engine lift brackets were modified to fit over them. The builder suggested that I repace the four bolts that go throw the bracket. Given the "threads" about the BBK...

    3/4" or 1" header bolts?

Which ones work better with stock heads and BBK shorties. I want a set of double headed hex bolts, Stage 8.

    Break in tips.

Thanks for all the advice. I guess since a new clutch is going in as well it will be a gentle break in. The T-5 is a fresh rebuild also and the 3.73's are new too. So after I introduce enough load to seat the rings, the consensus is to change the oil right away and then later around 500. The...

    Break in tips.

I am going to pick up my engine from the builder soon and drop it in. What are some tips for start up and break in. The engine will have Valvevoline 10W30 in it. I am planning to change that at or before 500 miles. What RPM range is appropriate for a roller cam engine break in? Should I...

140,000 Miles on the clock... Put a blower on it... but how?

Agreed, get the vitals first and let that direct you as to rebuilding or not. I just got my block rebuilt with 197,000 on it. It still ran strong and did not burn oil. But it was just a matter of time before the bearings needed to be replaced. I just went ahead and did everything else also.

Is the AFR website full of crap?

There are a ton of articles on the impact of AFR heads. fordmuscle, MM&FF, 5.0, Car Craft have all had something on them. I even saw one where the made 400hp with just the AFR heads, 1.7 RR and the stock 5.0 cam. I would buy a set if I had a spare $1200.

How does the cobra Intake (lwr and upr) stand up to the big boys

Here's a good article on intakes. Go to the site, http://www.andersonfordmotorsport.com/ and open Read Media Articles and look for this one "February 2000 Intake the Power...Sorting through the Streetable 5.0 Intakes on AFM's DynoJet ". The test wasn't done on a stock motor, but you can...

    Rearend Rebuild

You can pick up a set of new FRPP for $139.99 on line. I just had mine rebuilt. Switched out the 2.73 for 3.73. The Ford gears come with everything except a pinion bearing. You get a crush collar, pinion nut, and shims. I also needed new axle seals. Your shop will tell you if its rebuildable...

    Installing Upper/Lower Control Arms

I just did mine last weekend. I had the axle out for a rebuild and ring gear install. I used a floor jack, milk crates, and jack stands. I was able to push the axle in place on the milk crates. Then I placed it on the jack stands. I hooked up the lowers first. You'll be able to roll the axle...

    stain removing techniques

I like ZEP high traffic carpet cleaner. It doesn't remove the color and is pretty good at getting rid of most stains. Spray it on and work it in with a rag or brush. Then wipe the stain away with a clean rag. Might have to do this a few times depending on the stain material.

    Granatelli Lowers worth the price?

Yeah I suspect that wasn't your everyday mustang that broke either LCA. After 18 years on the OEM stuff, I just wanted to upgrade my components and read a lot of good things about MM products. I guess your budget will dictate which brand you get. I paid $238 for my MM's from stangsuspension.com...

Ok, thanks for the input. I guess I'll just save my $ for now and see how it goes when I start it up and drive it around for the break-in period.

    exhaust dilemna

I am in the process of assembling my car after a rebuild project. Currently it has 2 1/4 2 chamber flowmasters on it. I have a set of BBK shorties on the rebuilt block and their X pipe. Whats the disadvantage to running the car with a 2.5" X pipe into 2.25" catback? I have already spent more...

    Granatelli Lowers worth the price?

I went with some FRPP uppers and Maximim Motorsport lowers, non adjustable. Looking at the oem and FRPP uppers, I couldn't see much of a difference. Not sure about that "stronger" bushing theory? I've heard that some of the combo kits uppers are to stiff. But a lot of people seem to be running...
