? about the 4 cyl. Stang

It depends I have several and they have different strong points. My personal fav is the 91 vert 5 speed. All the options and a tight little car with good milage. Also have an 88 hatch 5 speed. Like it but it is a little rattier and better in the rain or weather. 85 coupe with a c-3 that is a...

    4ALD ? and the 2.3

Too easy! First thought is to recommend the T-5. However, once you have the tranny out it takes about 2 minutes to replace the seal. I have done an in and out seal change in about 1 1/2 hours. Bruce

pulling codes after a T-5 swap

1991 2.3 ain't running right with occasonal check engine lights. Today I read the codes and came up with Vehicle not in park or neutral when testing.. Failure of 3-4 shift solenoid and converter clutch lockup failure. With the 5-speed in it these codes are useless. My question is how do I...

    The driveshaft and the radio?

I bought a 91 convertible a while back and put a 5 speed in it. I noticed that the driveshaft I used did not have the dampener on the front yoke. I haven't noticed anything strange in smoothness or drivability...but! I just wonder about the dampeners function. Next is a bit odd. When I got...

    2.3T most popular swap?

Fun swaps Around here I have a rep as the guy who can figure anything out and find the parts cheap. I have helped put 2.3Ts in 2 Rangers, an Austin Healey and a 1960 Falcon. I have ridden in a Cobra kit car with a 2.3T and a Mercedes kit with one also. I am currently in negotiation for a Cobra...

    Loss of power/fuel problems?

timing belt I had a timing belt skip a tooth and it did the same as you are describing. My fan belt broke and a piece of it got between the belt and the lower cog. Made me crazy because I could not asssiate a broken fan belt with ANYTHING that could cause the symptoms. Bruce

    2.3T most popular swap?

I was looking at my latest copy of Grassroots Motorsports and they had an article about a low buck racer challenge. The bizzare swaps and the engineering is amazing. First place was a V8 Ford powered RX-7 and second was a 2.3Turbo MG Midget. Further looking revealed no less than 7 other cars...

    T-5 Problem

Not hard, but do it quick! Most likely just the seal. Drop the driveshaft and yank the seal. It is broken anyhow so removal need not be surgical. I have a piece of pipe that fits the seal perfectly and I tapped it in slowly while moving around the rim. A bad seal soon leads to a T-5 with no...

    Motor rebuild

I don't know much I'm headed that way myself. I just picked up an 87 T-coupe and the motor needs work. One thing I have heard is that you never use heat on the rods. I think these are press fit wrist pins and some places will heat the small end to get them installed and it will ruin the rods...

    Head Question

Found a 4 cyl head that I could get for near nothing. It is a D6 part number and has round ports. Does this have any value or am I looking at a boat anchor here. My first reaction was that it was a 2000cc head. It is complete and NOS. still has the dealer sticker on the box. Is there a place...

Help make sure I get a complete turbo block, HELP!

Maybe I'm just lucky Deals are still out there! It does say OBO! 88 turbo-bird, friend of a friend deal was $100, 86 Was driven off the lot ..fully legal and good tires for $400! Check on the motor in the paper. Get a talking relationship with the guy if possible. Tell him what you have for...

Help make sure I get a complete turbo block, HELP!

I comprendo! Sounds like you want to do a slow build. Build a killer over time as funds and knowledge allow. This can be a great thing and very satisfying. My own plans are similar as I plan to put the 86 turbo motor in fairly stock while building the 88 as a killer motor. I would still try for...

Help make sure I get a complete turbo block, HELP!

Alternate plan maybe!? I am a cheap SOB! Lets look at this block. It has no crank, pistons, or rods. no manifolds or any of the other stuff. Plus it must be shipped from Cali to Va. Turbo swap is a real expensive bear if you buy the parts one by one. Have you checked the local boneyards for...

Posts are getting slim to none

Weather! Last year at this time we had an extended cool spell. Easy for me to get ambitious about working on the car when the high is 82 degrees like it was last year. At 95+ degrees I tend to put this stuff off. Bruce

    Puting her out to pasture

2.3 and the T-5 I currently have 4 2.3L cars with the T-5. 86 T-Bird turbo, 84 GT Turbo vert, 91 vert and an 88 hatch. You asked if the 2.3 can handle a T-5? Dang Skippy!!! Handles it a lot better than the A4LD automatic. Usually the automatic will last 100-150,000 then it is either just so...

    Puting her out to pasture

Same route here! I just did the T-5 swap and have all the turbo stuff lined up. Improvement over the auto is so great I am gonna drive it for a few months before I think about the turbo swap. Your engine may not be as tired as you think 2.3 with an auto tranny is a real dog. Bruce

    Turbo Motor and T-5 Tranny

confused Quick question...What is the wire on the top of the tranny for? I just did a t-5 swap in my 91 and I have 3 trannies for some future swaps. I am sure that 2 of them do not have this wire. I can't check the other because its dark and I already took off my shoes. I am not sure of the...
