I have an 02 Mustang V-6 that has been having some interesting issues.
Last week I noticed that while in cruise control mode that the engine rpms were increasing and decreasing. This change was small, but enough that I could feel the constant shift in speed. I turned the cruise off and the car went back to normal. Now while driving at highway speeds (No cruise control) the rpm gauge is dropping to zero and then bouncing back up within one second. Most of the time when this happens there is no noticeable change in the engine, but on a couple occassions the engine has briefly lost power (1-2 seconds). Also, the speedometer will drop to zero and then bounce back. Neither the speedometer or rpm gauge do this at the same time. The check engine will come on for a second, then turn off. Lastly, the TCS light will come on for a few minutes and turn off.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what the heck is going on? Thank you in advance for the help!!

To get help always post the full DTC codes. There are 1000's and they each have a story to tell. Almost all auto parts stores will down load for free.

Manual or automatic? If automatic consider this may be a lock up torque converter problem. What is the condition and level of the transmission fluid?

Check the cluster ground located behind the center console. It is shared by several devices and is frequently messed up during a radio install.

Check out the following regarding PC solder foil trace repair on 99+ clusters.
