I was driving my car on the highway last week, and when I got off the highway and came to a stop, I noticed smoke coming from the front of the car. I thought it was a coolant leak but I just paid attention to my temp gauge and it was ok til I got home. I could not find a coolant leak. The next morning I realized my intercooler had been punctured (originally I wrote a thread last week thinking it was my a/c condenser), apparently by a rock on the highway. I took the car to my SVT dealer and they would not warranty the repair. I got on the phone with Dearborn and they said it was not a manufacturer defect and therefore not covered. However, I complained that the large opening in the front bumper gave no protection to an integral part of the drivetrain and at the price of this repair ($576 retail for the part & $165 labor), I was concerned about it happening again. I suggested that they should have used some type of mesh to protect against this. Anyway, I was trying my best to get it repaired at no cost. I did not prevail, however, I will write Ford and see if they will reconsider. The CSR did say the information regarding the lack of protection to the intercooler would be run by the engineers and they said if there were enough complaints, it might warrant a recall (doubt it). Has this happened to anyone else, I was just curious. Please let me know and what remedies you took with Ford to resolve it, if any.

That is a terrible situation. If you are going to spend that kind of money, get an upgrade and save a few bucks by getting the best aftermarket heat exchanger-which also comes with a protective mesh.

GordsFords email and phone # is here --> http://www.gordsfordperformance.com/

Call him if you have any questions. It's a 2 hour install and it outperforms the stock one 3x. He'll send you data sheets, comparisons and pictures, and prices (which are much cheaper than a stock replacment)

Hasn't happened to me personally, but it has happened to many others! Replace your stocker with one of the larger and more efficient aftermarket HE's. The cost is going to be almost the same.

Friedchicken - I was unaware the GordsFords unit had a protective mesh on the front of it? Personally, I like the HE from Xtreme Motorsports. http://www.xmsengineering.com

Any warranty issues with an aftermarket HE? As long as there aren't, I will definitely go with one of the two you guys mentioned. Thanks for the replies.

Can't think of any... Check with your local service advisor though. Some Ford service reps frown on ANY modification.

Yup, this happened to me also. It sucks, Ford did not design this very well.

I bought a JMS lower grill for mine. $89.00 plus $10.50 for shipping.

I ended up getting the heat exchanger from Gords Ford painted black for $415, and the mesh grill was $135 and I got that too. Rogue Cobra, I see you got a lower grill for $89. I had already ordered the whole package before I read your post, but the grill I got mounts up to the same holes that the H E mounts up to, so it's made to fit with the H E. My car is really set up for the street, so the fans were not really needed. I can always add them later, but will probably never need them. If anyone else who reads this post has had the problem I had, don't hesitate to call Ford and complain. Maybe if we all complained about our problems enough, Ford will respond. This repair cost me a good mod ( perhaps a set of x-pipes ). Oh well. Thanks for the input guys.
