Ok I bet this thread is super old and I admit I have just joined this forum because of this thread. I basically have a black 04 GT and I have recently acquired an 04 Cobra spoiler (finally!!!).

Now it seems that the next hardest thing about getting a cobra spoiler is putting it on lol. I searched everywhere for info but this thread seems to be the closest.

So as far as I know, the 2 outside GT spoiler holes are reused and I have to drill 3 more on top and 2 at the back. My spoiler came with 5 threaded studs on the top but the 2 at the back have nothing sticking out and instead only have threaded holes.

I also have a wire coming out of the spoiler with some kind of female plug. This is where I am all confused. I heard many things about harnesses and adaptors and etc. I was wondering if anyone can clarify for me EXACTLY what I need??

Cause I also heard that the trunk light is part of the GT brakelight assembly and I would need to deal with that too.

ANY help is much appreciated,

Thanks,
Brandon

You need the wiring that goes to your female plug. I think it's explained better in the original post at the top of the thread, but go to your local ford dealer and get one. I think mine was about $40, I bought other stuff too so I don't remember exactly.
And take the GT light out of your trunk. You don't need it.

wow i just made my own plug using the gt 3rd brake light since i didnt need it anymore. free! save youself $40 bucks and cut the gt 3rd brake like plug off the light and simply connect the correct colors to the cobra one, there will be an extra wire for the trunk light but i just yanked that out since i dont use my trunk for anything. so by the time ur done u will have cut off both connectors on the cobra brake light and the gt brake light. then u are reconnecting the gt plug to the cobra end using electrical connectors leaving the gt harness able to connect right up minus trunk light

drill some holes and post some pics!

Hmm damn I was at Ford today and ordered the harness...it was like $64 bucks lol. I was just at the track and took a good look at someones cobra spoiler assembly. Seems pretty straight forward.

Damn your car looks awesome.....mine will look like that...I got a black 04 GT

Love your Cobra spoiler. I hate the stock GT spoilers and really like the 03-04 Cobra spoilers, but they are pretty expensive. I have been looking for a "Duck Tail" spoiler for my 01 GT. The closest I could find to a true "Duck Tail" spoiler was one made by Xenon for $199. The Zenon spoiler does not use any of the factory holes and leaves two holes visible just like in your application. It also does not come with any template for drilling the x 4 new holes. It also needs some additional finishing work/sanding to make it look perfect.
I didn't want to use nylon plugs to cover the exposed holes. I had some scrap metal I cut to cover the factory holes from under the trunk. I secured the metal strips with some JB Weld. I then filled in the holes from the top with JB Weld also. Once dry I sanded the trunk/spoiler and it is at the paint shop right now. I should get it back on Monday. The spoiler looked great and I can't wait to get it back from paint.

Spoiler $199
JB Weld $4.00
Paint $300
Total = $503

So how do you guys measure for the 2 holes for the back of the bumper? there are no threaded studs sticking out of it.

I need to find a pair of nut-headed screws for them (whatever they are) along with one extra nut/spacer thing for the 5 studs on top of the spoiler. I can use the 4 from my stock GT spoiler but I need an extra one

I put white out on the end of the bolts then had a friend help me align the spoiler on the trunk, then drilled the holes where the white out marks where.

I'm just really nervous about pulling the trigger on the drill cause I'm paranoid that I'll mess up.

I know I can use my 2 rear GT spoiler holes as a guide. My 04 cobra spoiler has 5 threaded studs sticking out from the top part and I can line up the outside 2 with the GT spoiler holes but for the middle 3 I am just afraid that there might be some leeway in proper allignment between resting the studs on top of the trunk and actually having the studs going through the holes.

If you know what I mean

Well I just handed over the spoiler to a friend to help me get it repainted but eariler today I decided to jump the gun and go for drilling the holes. The problem was that the 2 stock GT spoiler holes were so big so there was a bit of play when I was measuring it but I tried to do it as straight as I could and what a mess cause I ****ed up the middle hole. I had to drill a a sem-hole like next to it since it was just alittle off and the 2 holes basically joined and it just doesn't look clean now.

I tried it on for fitment and for the most part it fit well. The problem is that the spoiler is JUST SO SLIGHTLY too far to the left and you can also see how the trunk keyhole lines up to the spoiler hole but the 2 studs that went into the stock GT holes were already all the way pushed to the right.

I also noticed that my spoiler is sitting like the OP's of this thread like the bottom of the spoiler is not sitting flush with the bend on the trunklid if you know what I mean. I searched for pics of 03-04 cobras with their spoiler on and it sits much more flush. Anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks
