That same amount of money spent on mods for a Coyote will more than cover the cost of intake/exhaust/tune with money to spare and get you well over the 400-410rwhp mark. Still not as much as the Cobra, no doubt.....but when you consider it's being done without the use of a supercharger, its pretty impressive none the less.

I honestly forgot where I was going with this......

If you look at Oem's mods above.
His swap headers alone were probably a grand. More than likely he's got a catback and some type of mid pipe. Just that stuff eats up more than the entire $1500 in mods.

I didn't mention the exhaust because I just assume any swap has the exhaust modded, can't see how it wouldn't have to be. Same with the fuel setup and CAI.
These things are a given in a swap. I'd call them a wash.
Even if I needed the fuel system (which I do not, but I do have), knocking money off for that would be like punishing the 03 cobra for making an extra 85rwhp and 125ftlbs of torque. The coyote makes a lot less power than a pullied, that's not much you can do about that.

You have a point on the idler and the meter. I disregarded them.
I do have a the larger tank and heat exchanger, but neither of those add any power to my bottom line. Would have made the same with or without them. Just takes longer to heat soak in traffic.

I don't dislike the coyote, I just don't see what it does that makes it a value to swap into a fox.
Since when was anyone around here satisfied with 400rwhp? Because you better be, if you want more than that you have to spend another 6 grand.

I may be coming off as a coyote hater, i'm really not.
The OP asked coyote or 03 cobra and if he wants the most for his money no matter how it's spent, i'm will to bet the 03 cobra comes out cheaper and makes more power.
Is it easier to install? That depends on his skill level with wiring, I think it really only took about 8 wires to make it run.

I know they're both kind of a tight fit in a fox. but totally doable with the 4.6L spec K-member

I was under the impression it was maybe that's not the case.

Naw bbk coyote LT 450 bbk Catted x 300 and I went with dynomax ultraflows catback same as you'd put on any fox. Its the constant power curve to 7k and T56 with 4.10's that makes this one bad street car, which I was after.

I could add a procharger and get 650+ hp - for 5k

or this for well over 700 hp for 6k

Same shop and tuner have done both, plus some badass Termi builds...

I just like the stock coyote, if I could get the VMP under my stock hood or reasonable cowl, Id think about it, but driving those SC cars just tells me I dont really that much juice ------- today....

Ive seen both side by side and think the coyote around the heads may be a little wider but thats from my armchair.

Don't limit yourself with a blower...turbos are more fun.

Random question bit do you guys know how much wider a coyote is then the 03 cobra engine?

My understanding is it's actually an bit narrower than the 4.6 DOHC motor. Friend of mine blew up his turbo 4.6 and is halfway through his coyote conversion. No problems from what he's said so far

Which part is the most fun? Putting it up on jack stands? Fabbing up and correcting parts that dont fit? How about the 2-years of non use, before you finally get fed up with the half finished pile of crap and sell it for a song just so you don't have to look at it anymore? Or for the guys who actually manage to get them together, having it run like a raped ape one day, then barely able to get out of its own way the next?

Fun stuff like that?

@89oem Those are nice numbers. That's what I'm going for. Just a nice street car with all the creature comforts.

For the rest of you guys I'm not looking for ultimate bragging numbers. I'll leave that to my fellow TX club members with Shelby's.

BTW, the op never really did say what his goal with his car is.

Not quite, not sure who is building your turbo kits.

I just prefer the kinda fun where the car will pull like a freight train, when I want. Gets 24 mpgs on the highway, drives like a complete stock car until boost is achieved. A turbo car that doesn't put the stress on a motor a blower car would, because changing those belts can be annoying. Or, maybe I love the charming sound of the blow off valve. The ability to roll up the windows and have a phone conversation via blue tooth because the car is quiet. Maybe, just maybe the lag of centrifugal blower just doesn't get him quite excited enough. Perhaps, I can make more power by pressing a few buttons and not having to swap pulleys. As far as jack stands...I've never put my car on them.

However, all I was trying to get at is coyote based cars have been 7s with a turbo...only 8s with the blower. Honestly, it's really weird how I've never heard of anyone with a coyote based motor go, Turbo to a blower, yet guys are switching from blower to turbos quite often.

Of course not, that's just silly!

However, Brad Gusler has taken his Ecoboost 10.19 and will be on the hunt for 9s this year. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
