i know i read it. you can bore a motor over and stroke it. the stroker kits are built for a bore. thats why i cant actually order the kit until after the machine shop tells me if i can get a .30, .20 or whatever it is i can bore it to. it all depends. i didnt mean just to buy the kit and throw it on, i ment to buy the kit and build it that way.

just as something to think about.... the 5.4 has the same bore as the 4.6 its all about the length of the stroke that makes the difference... not saying its right or wrong... but if the 5.4 in the GT is so badass... then stroking cant be wrong either. granted ford is lazy, but they did build a nice power plant.

we're talking about a more radical bore. Stock bore and stroke are 3.55" and 3.54", respectively, giving a displacement of 281ci. Increasing the bore to ~3.7" gives an approximate displacement of 304ci (this is the advertised displacement of the VT bigbore shortblock). Going From 3.55" to 3.7" can only be done by using either an aluminum block or a wet-sleeved iron block... so if you can find a Teksid block from a MarkVIII or scrapped 96-98 cobra, then you're golden. Increasing the bore this much unshrouds the valves and gives 25+ hp gains across the power band w/ stock heads/cams/intake. I'll take bore over stroke any day

strokin the motor is not awfull, but the best way to sqeeze some more cubes out of modular is with a larger bore.

BTW a standard 2v 5.4 is not bad ass in our cars at all, in fact they don't make anymore HP than we make stock. they make a little more tourqe

I think your thinking of a 5.4 4v motor.. now either the 4.6 or 5.4 4v is going to be a hell of a lot better than a PI 4.6 2v

anything that will allow you to increase the valve size on the 2v heads would be a huge improvement and big bore if you have the funds is the way you can do that. Even with the stock size valves you will show bigger gains due to reducing valve shrouding.

Big bore with Bigger valves = those are the two weak points of the modular small bore small valves.

well i am still stroking my 4.6 to a 5.0 and ill love it. haha. i will prolly be the only person in my area with one so im not complaining. the stroker kit isnt the only thing going onto my motor so. i guess good luck with your decision, its all on personal opinion.

no it's not a personal opinion.. there is science behind it.. I know it sounds cooler to say you got a stroker but really look into what we are saying..

a stock 5.0 has a 4.00 bore with a 3.00 stroke.. a stock 4.6 has a 3.55 bore with a 3.54 stroke..

the stock 4.6 has a longer stroke than a 347 stroker

take a look at the valve sizes of aftermarket 5.0 cylinder heads compared to our 4.6's even aftermarket modular heads have tiny valves.. this is because of the tiny bore.

Please it's 2006 do not run a carb

Fuel injection offers the same amount if not more power potential without the driveability inefficiencies that always plagued carbed cars.

would you feel comfortable wiring a EEC IV car from scratch? I think your best bet would be to find a 94-95 5.0 car and take the entire harness out of it and take lots of pictures so you can see where all the grounds are and such..

BTW I don't blame you for wanting to go with a 5.0 based motor. the 3.55 bore on the 4.6 = crap..

What does the year have to do with running a carb? The reasons you just explained on the EEC system is the reason he SHOULD go carb! One issue is your brakes. . . you will have to order a kit from strange and will have to mount fox spindals on the front in order to get the strange brakes to fit. The brake system in your car is hydro and actually runs off the powersteering. . . . You need a vac assisted or manual brakes, i would suggest going manual if you plan to run a larger camshaft. I know this because we just got done putting a 408 in my buddies 02 gt. If you have any questions of the swap shoot me a PM and i can tell just about everything you need to know to do the swap

Im going to talk to my mechanic about the stroker kit or boring it over. Thanx for the info, by the way if i bore over my motor will it like lots of boost and maybe some NO2. And anyone have expierence with transmissions with boost how well will my 3650 like turbo. I know no matter how fast i power shift im gonna lose boost whats the view point on trannys

I am not a fan of carbs... when I mentioned the year I am trying to point out this is not 1970.. sure you can make a lot of power with a carb, but you can make just as much if not more with a injected setup and have better mileage and drive ability.

unlike the bore vs. stroke discussion this is a personal preference of mine.. I like the tuneability of EEC, plus I am very familiar with the wiring of these cars and with tuning injected cars so for me it's just easier and better to run injection.

Is your mechanic that familiar with modulars.. I know several performance shop owners in my area that don't know much about them.. I am telling you go do some research over on MD or some of the other forums and ask the top names in modulars.

Stick with the mod motor go with a 4V or a 5.4 if you want to upgrade!

well if your planning on turboing it you might wanna do what everyone will suggest and go forged. Boring it over your still going to need because you will need to up your pistons and some other things. just sayin, if you ran the 5.0 stroker kit you could still turbo it but your going to have to keep the comp low and until you drop the turbo on you wont feel all the power potential. it is do-able though. make sure like svttech said, talk to someone who knows about modulars.
