So today i was putting in a new radio, and i removed the dash panel to access the radio, and i unhooked all the buttons under the radio, and behind the "dead button" where the TRAC button would be, there was a live harness plugged into the blank button, so i went to my dealer to ask them, and the printout they gave me on my car, said the car did not have ABS, nor did it have traction control..

so my question is.. if my car does not have abs or traction, why is there a harness plugged into the dead button where the traction button should be?

I didn't know that my '04 stang didnt have abs or traction.. i find that weird too.

yeah, you couldn't get TCS without ABS, and most years it was an option, although almost all cars were equipped with it. I was pretty sure at some point ABS/TCS were added to the base GT parts, but maybe not.

Personally I wouldn't mind if I could turn off the ABS system, but on my car at least, it hardly ever turns on - it'll let the tires lock up before it'll turn on on dry pavement, and that's fine with me. It's no better than my own foot on ice and snow, but it's automatic, so I still find myself having to stop my self from pumping the brakes manually lol.

I was talking for the 99-04s. The 99-03 had the Trac and ABS standard but in 04 it was a $750 option.

Correct. The window sticker on my 04 said just that. I'll have to go in and tune out the traction control and rear O2's when I get the Saleen. Damn 2002s. :D

Doesn't someone make an ABS delete kit for the 4.6? (FMS might be the maker)

For the origional posters question, you have the wiring harness because ford used the same harness for every vehicle, reguardless of options actually equiped. It is cheaper for them to provide the same harness and simply not use all the wiring connections.

For the 99-04, the TC and ABS came together or not at all, but the 96+ is different. My 97 has ABS, but no traction control. Perfect for me. :)
