I'm thinking of selling my 02 GT vert and I want a new project car. For some reason I have this car that sits in my garage and barely gets driven... and I dont know why, its like Ive lost my passion for driving it or modding it, and I want that passion back. i'm hoping that a new project car will provide that. For a brief period of time i looked into possibly getting a VW GTI, or and 04 VW R32... But neither give me that same heart flutter I get when I fire up a v8 mustang, or being able to get the back end out at will... so now i'm back to looking a mustangs... I have a company provided daily driver, so the car will see weekend driving on the streets. I'm also interested in going to the track a little more often, both the quarter mile and tracking the car at a twisty track about an hour north of here where they offer high performance driving experiences (HPDE's), which are instructor based racing days. But I also want a car civil and fun enough to hop in for a spirited saturday drive. Both a termi and an 05 mustang gt i can get about the same price used, but I dont know which one to go with. Here are my quandaries, and i'd like some input from you. i'm looking to spend 20k to 25. I could also get a mach 1, but... if im going to spend the money, i might as well get a cobra.

Performance. From a horsepower standpoint, the termi wins hands down, but what about from a handling standpoint? i hear the new chassis on the 05's is quite good, however the termi will have IRS, and bigger brakes and better suspension from the get go, which would mean less to have to mod to hit the track on occassion. from a modability standpoint, the termi already has a blower and with a simple pulley swap...i'm sure i dont have to continue that sentence. but I hear the 3 valve 4.6 responds to mods quite well.

Looks. Subjective per person, but I owned a 94 v6 from 96 to 2002 and now have had the 02 gt vert since 2002. I'm kind of tired of being in the same "cockpit" you might say and staring at the same interior for all these years. while the exterior changed, the interior really didnt much. I find the new edge interiors kind of "cheap" but thats ford for you, its not a bmw or audi... exterior wise, i like both the termi and s197's the same, both look great, though I have to say I prefer the s197s more because its newer. another minus on the cobra, but a plus for for the 05 GT.

Exclusivity: Theres nothing like driving a car that you know can beat 99% of the rest of the cars on the road. it inspires confidence and a sense of "bad assery." the terminator does that for me... 05 GTs... well I see every day, and for me take a bit of modification to stand apart from the herd. terminators, I only see maybe twice a week (haha, still quite often I guess), modified cobras much less often.

Collectibility: What do you guys think of holding on to a 03/04 cobra in the long run? Do you think it will maintain its value in the long run and be a true collectible car in the future? One sought after for years to come, much like a 95 cobra r, shelby gt500, etc?

Anyway, Just though I'd make a thread to see what people thought and would like to hear any input you guys have, biased or not. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you want a change. I would go for a used 05+ stang. I found some around my area for 15-18k with 35,000 miles on them. Then after you get it put a blower on. You will have the new style your looking for and it will be faster then a 03/04 cobra.

The only 05+ style I would get is the GT500. That would be the only one worth it imo. So to answer your question, myself, I would get the Kebra. But, if you want the style change than you might want the 05 GT.

05+'s look like ass but they can look killer with appearance mods and paint schemes IMO

considering what your whip looks like now, i am cofident you can pull something off with the 05+'s

Man, I am in EXACTLY the same boat. I'm torn between termi and 05 GT. I don't like the looks of a stock 05+, but looking at the 05+ forums here, i saw some pretty badass rides. Add window louvers, hood scoop, GT500 spoiler, GT500 wheels, to a black 05 GT, and you have a badass car. But its very very very hard to beat the performance and ease of modding of the termi. So what do i go for, performance, or looks? I had a black new edge, I'd like to get something new and different, like an 05. I considered putting the 5 psi KB on the 05 and getting similar to termi performance, but at that point, the 05 would cost more, and you're not getting an IRS, forged internals, or little snake badges, lol. So many choices!!!!!!!! I can't sleep at night thinking these things over, and I need to make up my mind really fast. So i guess you're not the only one torn over an 05 GT and a termi.

For me personally, I'd rather get the 05. I agree with how the interior is 4,000 times better then the New Edge cars.

While the Termi is very badass, I would never use all of it's 390 stock horsepower on the street. I don't go to the strip so I wouldn't see a need for it, for me, personally.

I think the 05, while having a solid rear, is suppose to handle amazingly. I've never driven one, only sat in one.

I would pick up a cheaper 05 and change the grille, relocate the fogs to the bottom and slap a decklid on it nad you have a good looking ride. Full exhaust would make it sound great and get some more speed out of it.

Just my two cents.

Hard Decision. I am a die hard New Edge fan. I love the looks of them with a fat tire and lowered. Dang near orgasmic! However I look at my friends turboed, and twin turboed 06's and get a chubby.

Good luck in your decision. I went through it 2 months ago. I ended up with the '01 Cobra.

I bet the majority in this forum will say cobra, but if you posted the same thing in 2005+ talk, you'd get the majority saying 05 GT.

So you should post this in 2005+ talk as well, i'd be interested in seeing that.

Just think with a 05+ you get a car that has as much power as a 99-01 cobra and 03-04 mach1. You get a sold rear for better drag performance and they can easily run in the upper 12s with a few bolt ons. Also the 05+ look killer if you get the silver horse side louvers and a duck tail spoiler.

do u want power or looks?......it is cheaper to make power with cobra and u are getting a 4v motor and it is supercharged...i think that cobra is a good buy.it would hold it's value more then a 05 gt...

True, that is one awesome car, but think about how much money he has into it!! I think right now, i'm looking for the best bang for the buck performance wise... Which would have to go to the cobra. At the same time i'm conflicted in that I want the new body style and interior...

I saw a white terminator today lowered pull into a wendys and pulled past a firebird when he entered. I had my window down and when he passed the firebird he blipped the throttle as he cruised by, all I heard was intake suction and blower whine followed by and exhaust note... I think I wet my pants a little when i heard that.

I do know that I want a car thats fast out of the box and that will take little to no money to haul ass in and be able to take a corner like its nothing...

...but i really like the 05s... haha

Hmmmmm. Sounds to me like a Terminator is in your future. You are just trying to convince yourself not to buy one! JUST DO IT!!!!
