05 Speedo has gone crazy.

My wife's 05 v6 stang's speedometer is not working properly. Sometimes it just stays on 0, other times it says we are going 20 when were are going 60, sometimes we are at a complete stop going 85. The odometer works fine still. Any ideas on where to start on this problem? I guess the speedo is not mechanical since it sometimes works, a broken cable can't sometimes work.

There is no way to know for sure whether it is a sensor or a wiring issue, but the Mustangs after 2000 have often had issues with the speed output sensor located on the transmission. There is more here, it's a fairly common issue.
