Well, The dealer may have 'rebuilt' the transmission but, the knocking is still there. Took the manager of the dealership out for a ride when I went to pick it up today. he said "not like anything I have heard before".

The letter to Ford has been written and will be mailed tomorrow. NC lemon law gives them 4 attempts to repair or 20 days out of service before a buy back.

I really do want them to fix it, replace the tranny; I'll be happy!

We'll see what they have to say tomorrow.

I have a TR3650 in my 2001 Mustang GT. I need a rebuilt transmission for ONLY $2,800 with only 55,500 miles on it.

There is a very big thread in the 4.6 Tech section. It apears to be an ongoing problem.

I had an '02 with the 3650. Started reading the threads on this forum. I called the regional TREMEC rep. His response was that the trans had problems, TREMEC put together a repair kit, and that Ford knew about it. 3 more months of fighting with Ford and they rebuilt the trans. Tradded the car in with the dealership for a MACH 1 while the '02 GT was still on the rack.
I thought that three more years might have solved the problem. From what I read on this and other threads, guess not. My '02 was notchy going int 2nd and 3rd in the cold. Colder it was, the worse it was, until the car warmed up.

My '05 GT manual trans was clunking when casually shifting gears. When I took it in at only 1500 miles, they found metal filings in the pan and immediately told me I would get a new trans as per a Ford TSB. Car was in the dealership garage for over 3 weeks, but now the trans is fine (over 7000 miles on car now). Had gas tank replaced and popping noise from front struts/springs fixed at the same time. Still have a rattle from the front end at low speed over small bumps but otherwise no problems since.

I don't think the s197s will ever shift as smooth as the fox bodys, since the shifter is not directly on the tranny.

Fox bodies don't have the T3650.
Ford started using the T3650 in February 2001.

My 01 GT is one of the last ones built (January 2001) with the T45.
No problems (so far - fingers crossed) although like the 3650 it sort of crunches into 2nd gear when cold.

But neither the T45 nor the T3650 are what I would call "refined" transmissions". Even when in perfect condition they are clunky shifting trannies.

Has anyone had these issues on their 06? I haven't noticed any of this on my new GT (only have about 700 miles on it though). My tranny is a little notchy, but most Mustangs I've been in have been that way.

If you have problems with your manual trans be sure to read the TSB at the begining -TSB 05-8-8 says growl/grind when you decel in 2nd or 3rd. Many of the issues noted in this thread are driveline clunk when you shift or get on and off the throttle. This clunk is bothersome but does not mean anything is wrong.
The 3650 in the 05/06 car is greatly improved over the old ones- I have owned both.
