06' Cobra? I dunno, What do you guys think?

It wasn't a shop, it was one of several pictures taken by a local to Naples who noticed a sudden influx of camoed, Detroit licensed plated cars on the road. While out near a Harley testing ground, where the cars were seen originating from he snapped some pics of one of three cars with a massive cowl.

The pics were later confirmed by MM&FF, 5.0, and several other reliable sources that the car was indeed a test platform for a 5.0 Cammer with a prototype intake manifold. This intake manifold was later seen in a smaller form on the Boy Racer car now residing on the front page of Stangnet. Other accounts especially the one from MM&FF pointed to a production GT motor which was being debuged in the new Mustang platform because of the possibility of a 5.4 transition, as well as the fact that they only had 6 prototype cars at the time 3 of which were on car show tour.

Colletti has gone on record as saying he is going to go with some iteration of the 5.4 for the Cobra....but what we have no clue. I will seriously doubt that we will see a dry sumped 5.4 Aluminum block twin screwed GT motor in our mustang, but then again we just might get a dumbed down version of the motor. Possibly even a cast block with the standard Eaton on it. A modest and underated 400 HP would be nice eh? What ever it is, I think Ford realized they made a hit with a factory SC cobra, and have no reason to revert. Shelby is back so hell we may even see some cars with his name on them, and specialty motors of his choosing.

One can only dream, until we are fed some more info.

yee of little faith. Check this out.

"You don't actually think we'd build an all-new engine just to put it in one car, do you?" That was an incredulous Ford Special Vehicle Team boss John Coletti in response to our asking where else we could expect to see this monster modular motor appear over the next few years.

This was published in hot rod last summer.

All I have to say to that is, I hope that I am wrong. I find it difficult to believe that we will be getting the same motor that is in a 150,000 dollar car in the 40,000 dollar mustang. The mustang isn't going to be a competitive car for the Vette, and I wouldn't want it to be. Part of the mustang is its' affordability, and I would ahve a hard time shelling out anything over 40,000 grand for one.

Saying they can get that motor or some type of 5.4 DOHC with a blower on it....I will buy the heck out of one.

It's fun to speculate, but if the GT 5.4 ever ends up in a Mustang it will most likely be a limited run Cobra R. I feel like the next SVT is destined to get a 5.4 3V with a screw-type Eaton, same as the Lightning. It just makes better sense from a money standpoint, and I think it would be great. Another thing I would like to see is a N/A 5.4 3V option for the Mustang GT or special edition of some kind.

The DOHCs are out for any mainstream Mustang, including the '03/'04 Cobra motor and the 'Cammer'. That has been pretty much spelled out already.

I imagine we'll see a 5.4 DOHC or SOHC special edition mustang (think Mach1) but for now I bet they'll just do some minor tuning to the 4.6 DOHC and terminator engine.

Even though the concept Mustang had it, Coletti has already said that the 4.6 DOHC is history (in all forms) - it will never see the new body for production.

Please provide the source of that quote. I don't belive that you are correct.

The only thing I remember Coletti saying is that the 4.6L, iron block, DOHC, S/C engine as used in the 03/04 Cobra "Has been put up on the shelf." Coletti went on to say "Other Ford groups could use it if they want but we (SVT) are through with it."

IIRC this quote was from Automotive news and later appeared in Autoweek.

That may have been what I was thinking of. I still believe they are done with DOHCs though, except maybe for a limited run of specialty Mustangs perhaps(Mach 1/Bullitt/Cobra R?). Why else would they spend time developing the new 3V, just for trucks mainly? I think they would go 5.4 3V before 4.6 4V again.
