Does anyone know why the 3.55:1 ratio rear axle assembly cost more on the 08 vs the 07?On the stcker they are asking $300 for the 08 as opposed to $100 for the 07.Why the $200 markup?

huh i don't know. I only paid 100 for mine last year because i didn't want to spend money really soon after putting 3.73's in, but if they would have been a 300 dollar option i probably would have just saved the money and went up to 3.73's from 3.31's

I literally just got back from a dealership in DE (test drove an 07 and am hopfully ordering an 08 next week) and they listed the 3.55 L/S as a $100 option on my 08's ordering list.

Then there must be a typo.I have a pic of the sticker and it says $300.I will bring that up when we negotiate.

Maybe you should go online to the Ford page, build a car to your specs, and see what price is listed for the 3:55 gears...

The prices are listed on the options menu as $300.00 for 08.Can you give me the site that shows it being $100?The site below is the only one that I could find.Ford has not updated their site for 08.

I went to the bowenscarff.com website and found the same price as well. Not sure why they raised the price that much.

The 3.55 gears are definately $300 now. I just bought my '08 yesterday, and the window sticker says $300. I'd assume Ford realized they could make a bigger profit since people would still pay the $300 to get the option.

Just went to a second and third dealer (shopping around for best price) and the option is now $300. I'm guessing the quote from the first dealership was wrong.. probably using an 07 order form.

I was at the dealership today and found out that Ford changed Mfg because they were having issues.Hopefully the Mfg change we be worth the extra cost.I am glad to know that Ford reacted in a timely manner.

If they were a 300 dollar option I would have just waited and doubled my money and thrown on some 3.73's.

The price went up because Ford has more problems with the 3.55 rear ends. This helps offset the warranty claims. There's a reason they went to the standard 3.31 gear in 07, and a cost option for 3.55s. Don't let them fool you by saying it's to help gas mileage.

That's odd. How can they be having more problems with 3.55 gears versus 3.31's? It's such a small difference in gearing, truth be told! My 03 Mach 1 came with 3.55's (which I eventually replaced with 4.30's), as did all 2003-4 Mach 1's and SVT Cobra's, while the 99-04 GT's all got 3.27's. While some guys broke axles from extreme drag race duty, I never have heard of a gear related problem with the 3.55's. Same is true for the 2005-8's with either gear set. I've searched TSB's for the new GT's and don't see that Ford is having warranty problems with 3.55's.

FYI, my 07 GT Coupe now has 4.10's and so far no problems. This car is my daily driver and is a weekend warrior at the local dragstrip, so it is used and abused often.

Guess you haven't read Stangnet then... Everyone that's had rear axle whine problems have had the 3.55s. I worked at a dealer when the 05s came out and we always had a shop full of them replacing the gears due to whine. Thus the 3.31 became standard.

Just ordered mine with the 3.55 L/S. After BS'n for a bit he put it on the order sheet and didn't up my price.

I've had the factory 8.8 3.55 L/S in my Truck (2003 FX4) for 69k with nothing more then the occasional grunt going around tight corners. Still works just fine today so I hope my luck holds out with the new one.

Ahh poopdawg I stand corrected. I just recently came back to stangnet a couple weeks ago since I began planning the purchase of my '08. I hadn't read anything in the forums for a few years now, and since I was a V6er before, I hung out in those forums while I was active.
